First post! New Toyota Tacoma driver and been loving the journey so far but I have small issue that’s not allowing me to pass vehicle inspection and I believe the problem for the high beam indicator light is not appearing on dash because of the aftermarket headlights and the way it’s wired, I bought the vehicle like this and learning as I go!
And I do believe for the check engine light bulb can be replaced but I hear it’s difficult to get too but anyways would love some feedback hope to hear back!

Does the obd port work? I fixed an old truck had no check engine light and the obd port wasn't connecting to anything. Replaced the fuse for the obd port and all was working.

    Check all fuses.

For the headlights, disconnect the battery before playing with those. If they are HID could be high voltage going through them. I'd disconnect the oem plugs where they meet the aftermarket wiring. Install OEM spec bulbs/sockets to the oem wiring. See if that resolves your issues. Might be cheaper to just buy used headlight assemblies with bulbs.

In some states the seller is responsible for providing a passed inspection before the title work can proceed.

    Worth looking at.

Ebay, car-part.com, check here on tacomaworld.

Or find a local junkyard that has similar year Tacoma. Most Tacomas in junkyards are stripped something fierce by the time you get there though.

    Something like this:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/125020120777

You'd have to do some digging on which aftermarket headlight system is installed to know if it supports proper high/low wiring, but I'd be willing to bet it doesn't. So as the others have suggested, get yourself some aftermarket housings, and convert that back to stock until you can do a proper upgrade.

What makes you think your check engine light is out? Does it illuminate at all between inserting the key into the ignition and starting the truck?

If it's out, it might be out because someone wanted it to be out. If you have a ODBII reader, hook that up and see if you have any codes. You want to make sure the seller/previous owner is not hiding anything else.

No the check engine light does not illuminate when placing the key in the ignition if I remember correctly the light used to be on, there is a exhaust leak by the engine which is what failed inspection also which is cool , I bought the truck a month ago in Portland and brought her home back to texas.

High beam dash light is load-dependent. When you replace with non-halogen (like LED), the load is no longer large enough to turn the dash light on.

I have PIAA 26-17304 6000k 9003/HB2 LED drop in replacement bulbs, which drop into the stock housing. High and Low work great- no issues with the dash light.

Then I guess you're lucky. I have different LEDs on both my Taco and 4R and neither has the dash light working after the conversion. The 4R even lost fog light ability

Got the headlight situation resolved ✅
And getting the check engine light looked at tomorrow to narrow the problem down. Will give another more descriptive update by end of week.

Another update, bulb for the engine light was replaced now that’s resolved I also had a exhaust leak and the mechanic did his majic there and fixed the bulb for under $500 not bad but now the engine light is staying on this occurred on the way home , now I’m still learning more as time goes by as the issues that neee mandatory fix to pass Texas inspection they make it a nightmare but all the trouble and time and money is worth it I love this truck ! And lastly I’m not gonna worry about the high beam indicator as I found a resource who will help me pass inspection.
    I really appreciate everyone’s feedback !

That's a bummer. Just start working through the codes methodically, and don't jump into the parts cannon.

Update on check engine light being on: just needed a new gas cap drove it once yesterday and was still on and today I disconnected my battery as I was installing some new speakers and turned the truck on a few hours later and no more light so glad that’s resolved also there was a exhaust leak and got that fixed up but now there’s a little rattling noise and can’t seem to figure it out but may have an idea.
