Is it true that you can't drive on the freeway till it's broken in? Why? Where did I see that?

No it isn't true. Drive the truck the way you'll normally drive it. Go through the power and from time to time and you'll be fine.

    Not something to over analyze.

Follow the vehicle owners manual break in procedure. There's a reason it's in there.

Correct. But that's kinda hard not to do on a highway. I would guess for the most part the engine (rings and such) are probably allready broke in from the factory. It's the Trans and rear end that still need some heating/cooling cycles.

You can still drive on the highway. It's about not keeping the RPMs the same for long periods of time. Apparently with the third gen, you can just set the cruise and the RPM will be all over the place anyway.

To the OP, my first Drive was from Bakersfield to San Diego and it's just fine. As long as youre going through the RPMs you'll be fine.

I've read this too. I take delivery at the end of the month and have a hour and a half drive from my dealership to my house all on the interstate. I usually set my cruise and go...kinda worried about that.

It's really not difficult to do at all. All you have to do is move your right foot a quarter of an inch up and down every now and then. Or, even better, bump the cruise control up, and then down, every so often.

Newer car does not need to brake in period.
Latest materials, oils and technology applied to build newer cars makes the "Brake in Process" obsolete and unnecessary. Just drive of the dealership with no worries.
Keep up with the scheduled maintenance and that will be the key to keep your new car for long time. Unless you read a disclaimer that says "fail to brake in the car might void your warranty" which I don't think is anywhere in the manual or any other paperwork.
Good luck and enjoy you new truck

On the other hand, if you want to believe the highly-paid Toyota engineers,
    "The Book" states this:

    ■ Breaking in your new Toyota
To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:

    ● For the first 200 miles (300 km):
    Avoid sudden stops.

    ● For the first 500 miles (800 km):
    Do not tow a trailer.

    ● For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    • Avoid sudden acceleration.
    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

    ====
However, the book does not define "extremely high speeds" or "extended periods".

I drove my 10 miles on the odometer truck about 400 miles home all highway. It is still in one piece, gears did not grenade out of the differential, transmission did not fall off and engine did not throw any rods.

I believe it is ok. If you are that worried you can always have it towed to your house and put a diaper on it.:D

This is literally not true for the Gen3 Taco. See owners manual, which clearly states break in guidelines for 500 and 1000 miles.

Yep, Toyota just added the break in procedure in the manual because their technical writers didn't have anything else to do that day.

Also it says "Toyota Recomends" so that sounds like is not something you have to do, is more like what to avoid and what not to do than a break in.
Mine is 1100k and since day 4 (cuz I got it on a Tuesday) I have been taking my dirt bike to tracks all over Florida, and that includes long miles of highway speeds. I know is not considered a heavy load, but for the other suggestions I haven't follow any of that, and my truck still ruining like day 1. I have so far 1500 miles in it and no issues.

I hope your mileage is a typo, because it says you have 1,100,000 miles so far.... Dang dude. Also, I don't think you will notice immediate catastrophic failure by not adhering to the prescribed break in recommendations, but it could reduce long-term wear/reliability. Or it could just be that Toyota is applying a liberal amount of CYA in this area. Either way, it's your truck, drive it how you want.
