Find a labor job. You'll bust your ass but it'll keep you strong and you make serious cash.

Don't do fast food. The amount of bullshit you have to put up with from both managers and customers who treat you like complete shit is not worth the minimum wage you'll be pulling. Trust me.

x3 on the trade thing, in 20 and in college and made 1500 doing cell phones just off of craigslist in my free time, if theres a market for someone go for it.

try cleaning jobs, i got a job as a cleaner thats full time and pays bomb for summer, and looking for a 2nd at like a hospital or something. look for the one craigslist as well i know someone already said that and try to go find a cleaning job. its not the funnest but you can get away with having an ipod in usually if your boss doesnt care and as long as you get your stuff done so its not to bad. or if your fit enough try going to a moving company, thats what i also am look at

yeah! On all the porn sites, the cleaning ladies get major action. So you could probably be working it with them! If it's on a porn site, it must be true.

Apparently cleaning pools is also a source of income and sex.

Exactly...learn from this and you will be in a position at 40 where not having a job for awhile won't be a catastrophe and at 50 Part time work will be all you want to do. But yeah you don't get to have what you want in your 20's and 30's but its WELL worth the sacrifice. No worries about foreclosures vehicle payments..

I hear younger people claim "Screw it I may die tomorrow" Problem is they rarely do.......and have to suffer the financial mistakes that grow exponentially as they get older becasue "What the hell live for today I could die tomorrow".

Agreed with the people saying hold off... It was a whole before I got the vehicle I wanted... through HS I drove an 81 volkswagon pickup.

Wait until you can comfortably afford a tacoma, you don't want the truck you love to become a financial burden, and don't just think about the truck payments and insurance, think of the gas.

Thats how Ive gotten every job ive ever had. you ALWAYS call them back or go in to check up on the position. normally if the posistion is still open they will give you an interview on the spot or at least set you up with a time to come in for one.

I know it's tempting but stay in school until you get your papers for the courses you're taking. To drop out 3/4 of the way thru or fail because you were doing it just for fun or something is just dumb. You spent all the time and money and got nothing for it. At least if you finish it and get the certs that's something you will always have even if you never end up using it. There's a lot of times education doesn't really equate to what you need to do and know in the real world but just as many times you still need that piece of paper to get the job or to be taken seriously.

Also, yea, if you want a job you need to follow up. Especially when times are tough you need to separate yourself from the competition. It's no different that trying to meet a pretty girl. Lots of guys are going to go up and ask her out and she's going to make snap judgements based on a number of things, how you're dressed, are you clean, how you talk. If you do well with the first impression, and even if you don't do so stellar, then you are persistent you'll get somewhere.

Think of it from the employers point of view for a change too, don't stop when you do get the job too. Remember, you're not entitled to a wage just for showing up. He's purchasing your labour and abilities. If you were going to pay someone $10 every hour out of your own pocket what would you expect from them? For one you'd want them to make you at least $12 an hour probably so you can pay their wage plus pocket $2+. Not sure about the US but in Canada by the time you pay wages, pension, unemployment, taxes, injury compensation, etc a wage of $10/hour actually costs the employer about $13 or something.

If you wanted to get into trades, which is a good way to get some hands on experience, exercise and practical knowledge that will serve you well later in life, I'd find a jobsite that looks like it could use some help and ask to speak to the foreman. Tell him you want a job and you'd like to spend the remainder of the day helping out however you can. Make him a deal, I'll work for the day cleaning up, moving stuff around, etc, if you're happy with me you can hire me on and pay me, if not, I'll carry on. Show up in something clean but suitable for work (boots, jeans) and speak english, try to cut down on the slang and homie-talk if you do any of that. I suspect most guys would have a hard time turning down some free labour, even if it is inexperienced, and if you keep your chin up, work hard, keep a good attitude and don't complain they'd probably hire you on. If he would let you go thank him for the time and ask him for any suggestions on another place to try.

It sucks to do anything for free but desperate times call for desperate measures as the saying goes. If you knew a trade you wanted to get into, like electrician for instance, you could always go to the company and in the same way ask if you could have a ride-along with one of their guys to learn more about the job and help them out however you can. Do good work for the guy you're with and he should give you a favorable review with the boss-man.

It's unconventional but I think it would work. A guy who's willing to work hard for free as something of a hands-on interview, should be a great worker when he's getting paid for his time. The important thing is separate yourself from the pack, anyone can hand in a resume or fill out a form.
