Hey figured i'd ask the question here.

I have a hitch mounted cargo carrier. It has additional brake/turn signal lights and a 4 pin connector. Maybe i'm doing it wrong but I take the 4 pin connector and plug it in and nothing happens. No lights...nada.

Do I need to do anything else to get the 4 pin connector working? I even went in and tried selecting a trailer and driving around the block. When I go to the 'trailer' menu it also would just say 'error' for a while but that has gone away. Is there some switch to turn power on to the connectors?

It is really annoying because I have to manually disable the parking emergency braking sensor otherwise I can't back up the truck.

Looks like it wants you to select trailer lighting test first to ensure it works. Page 205 in the manual.

So select the Gear symbol in the combination meter display, go to vehicle settings and try from there.

Thank you for the help! I tried the trailer light test and discovered over the winter half of my connections totally corroded from ski trips. I was ready to launch more salt at Toyota but looks like this one is on me. Might even be sorta a blessing in disguise after reading that thread of the people getting stuck in tow mode.
