No longer stuck in Riverside. Ratchet strap saves the day despite better judgement.

    looks like the excess.

you guys need to throttle back a bit ...yes its a ratchet strap but one of those heavy duty ones...if its a 2" its going to be similar to this. yes I agree I prob wouldnt stand where that guy is. but those big ratchet straps are quite solid enough to pull, you just cant take a running start and yank. Also he was in sand so its going to dig in deep...lesson learned;)

Now it’s time to at least look into a strap (not a ratchet strap) if you’re going to be doing some off-roading. Or if you’re going to do some serious off-roading get some full blown recovery gear.

It could work in a pinch... OR it could break and send the ratchet through your back window and into your head.

Lol, I can think of several vehicles I would of rather of been in if I were the OP. Tacoma’s are good off-roading on tight trails because of their size. That’s about the only reason.

Wait 8 now, Tacoma with 4wd I’ll add to that list

Usually we do them at in and out or harbor freight parking lots.... never know when you might get hungry or need that emergency 1 time tool.

I’ve gone through these trials plenty of times but some how today wasn’t my day. I will look into some gear to keep in my truck just in case this happens again but really I hope it never does haha such a bad feeling knowing you can’t move forward not back and you’re digging yourself deeper in the hole. I need to be more careful next time

It’s always a good idea to have a strap in your truck. I don’t really off-road but I keep one just to pull people or myself out of the snow we get around here. One of those things it’s always better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

That being said anytime you get stuck if you’re starting to dig in and still can’t get out it’s best to always just stop. Airing down is almost always a good idea when you don’t have a lot of traction. Always try and go with people so you’re not completely stuck alone. All in all it’s a learning experience. You’ll fair better the next time around.

Absolute bare minimum is a decent quality recovery strap and two d-rings/shackles, one for each end of the strap. And a shovel....

Haha no it wasn’t on the tailgate it hooked to the bottom hinge!
I know this was a rookie mistake but man I was panicking and couldn’t think straight trying to rush and get it done before night time. Having no service up those trials didn’t help me comunicate with you guys or I would’ve been giving updates only service I could get was getting out of the trials and driving down maybe 10min for service. Pretty bad sitiuation for me today :(

I started quoting posts pages back so day late dollar short but you’re all spot on.

But it looks cool but he didn’t get to use it since he got recovered before the sun set.

    This. This a lot.

Good call and see below. Also, don’t go out alone if you don’t have a means of self recovery.

To echo this, make sure you buy quality shackles OP. Don’t cheap out on some cheap shackles.
