    Hi,

I have tried everything that I know and I still can't get my text messages to work through my truck.

I've went to Bluetooth settings and selected "allow notifications", I have followed owner's manual instructions, I have erased my phone from ruck and then re-connected, I have made sure I do not have any favorites.

Any last tips to get this thing to work?

Sorry, in advance. I am starting to get frustrated.

I didn't need the entune app to enable text messages. Just as the OP did, I paired my phone, then under "i" I toggled "Show Notifications" to On. That was it. Try it a few times.

    This was on an iphone.

Granted my truck is a 2nd gen, but I ran into the same problem. I have both an LG and Sony phone. When the I was using the stock sms messenging app for each phone, it worked fine with my truck. As soon as I switched over to the Signal messenging/SMS app - the truck would not longer detect or read the texts.

Still haven't been able to solve it. My only though now is to root one of the phone and changing the settings so that Signal becomes a stock app.

Don’t bother. After I figured mine out, I turned it back off because it was loud and annoying. Not worth it IMO.

    Ok....first, I will admit....sometimes I am an idiot.

I just figured it out though!

I have an iphone 6, I do have Entune app on my phone.

I had to go to my Iphone message settings and allow text messages to be viewed on lock screen. I've always had my iPhone setup to where it would show who the text was from on the lock screen, but never the actual message. After I deselected the option to hide messages on lock screen, the first test text I sent came through on truck!

I was wondering if I was the only one struggling with this. I hope this may help someone else too.

Holy crap! I never thought about it. Texts were always hit or miss for me. Entune will notify that I got a text but the Read button would be grayed out...most of the time. Sometimes, I could hit Read and I couldn't figure out why. I'll check it tomorrow to see if that works, but I bet that's the problem. Thanks!

Head unit gray out Read button when the truck is in motion. As soon as the truck stop, you can select Read button. This is the safety feature, put in by human and easily override by know how.
To get your phone working properly with head unit.... first reset hu to default (meaning delete all data and reset to factory default), turn off the taco power then on and paired again with sp and allow entune to fully access to sp.
90 percent will fix the problem

^^^So if you have any ideas on how to read texts while the vehicle is in motion, I am all ears.

Doesn't the system read them to you using the robot voice? My 2nd Gen does.

Yes, correct. Choices are “Read” and “Ignore” when you’re in motion, but you cannot see the texts. As soon as you’re at a stop, you can then see the text. I like the feature personally.

It does read the texts aloud, but it would be great if I could read them on the screen whilst the vehicle is in motion.

    Search in tw for
    HAI
This Plug n Play cable will give user all the whistle and bell in Head Unit that user wanted such as
    1. Add additional camera for front/side/rear
    2. Add media player
    3. Add Smartphone Mirroring
    4. Have Camera View on demand...Anytime Camera View
    5. Speed Detection Override ....this option will give user all options when the truck is in motion such as enter address in Navigation, numeric keypad, text message displays......
Read that thread and understand your responsibility as a driver.

Not sure for ios, but on my Android I can tell my phone not to lock when paired to my head unit. It will still turn the screen off after timing out, but won't secure my phone while it's paired to the truck. As soon as it detects the truck/headunit is off it reverts to full lock. Kinda handy for this type of thing.
