    Hello All,

My brother found out recently that the company he works for is a sister company to Bilstein, therefore he gets an employee discount on any product that Bilstein sells. Naturally he was very excited to hear this good news because he has a 2001 Tacoma 4WD and wants to upgrade to a set of 5100's. After calling the number he was given by his work and talking with the Bilstein contact he was directed to-- he came away disappointed! According to the contact, Bilstein doesn't offer the 5100 for first generation Tacomas. I told my brother this must be a "mis-quote" because according to this very forum many Tacoma owners have 5100's installed on their 1st gens. Instead of calling the Bilstein guy back to tell him he must be mistaken, we visited the Bilstein USA website and looked up their Tacoma applications-- sure enough right there on their website they only list 5100's for 2005 and newer Tacomas. If this is old news I apologize for wasting your time in advance! If its something new... it sucks!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Then why do the 1st Gen Billies only have 3 settings where the 2nd Gen's have 4?

They do and always have made them. However they are often on back order because they are so poular. Maybe there was some miscommunication? :notsure:

I'm not sure what to think. Indeed there could have been some miscommunication between my brother and the Bilstein contact, but that still doesn't explain why their website doesn't list 5100's for 1st Gens. It seems to me that if they are on back-order then Bilstein would list that. Like everyone else on this forum I hope Bilstein hasn't discontinued this model.

Just shooting in the dark here, but maybe it has something to do with Race Car Dynamics having the design rights to the 5100s. I know that Bilstein manufactures these items based on SPECS by RCD. So technically these are not Bilstein items, as they are only the manufacturer?

I dunno probably just talking out my a** on this

You are correct for the most part, after a fair amount of research I did prior to getting mine I found out from local Bilstein dist. that there are no 5100 specific applications for 1st gen Tacomas, what I was referred to was the adjustable 5100's for 1st gen. Tundras with 5 settings instead of the 3 settings you find now, love'm....;)

My guess is this also. I called a couple of OffRoad shops and they told my Bilstein did not make them either. They then tried to sell me some spacer kits for $700.00 installed

I bought my RCD - Bilstein 5100's from Wheeler's Offroad and they fit perfectly. Got 2.5" of lift and the truck rides better too.

Interesting indeed. I wonder where the part number came from? It doesn't show up on their website anywhere. Not even in the cross-reference excel file.
