Just left my local Toyota dealership

They're not taking anymore orders for the 2017 TRD Pro in cement

I was told that if I ordered today, I would be getting a 2018. Getting a 2018 means that I'm in the dark on any changes to the vehicle and won't know what the 2018 color will be either.

I'm pretty dead set on the cement 2017.

Are these guys right? Do I have any other options?

    Thanks

Well you don't have your location but, you could start here...or ask the dealer if they dealer trade???

Likely just means that Dealership has no more planned allocations for 2017s incoming. They don't "Order" anything anyhow...that's not how it works.

Maybe a regional thing. We can't order Cements anymore either and I'm in the Gulf States region.

It's early for the allocation of 2017 to be over.
Maybe on the Pro they are only making so many or they are changing something.
But it's only April seams really early to be out of allocation.

I would ck the largest dealers and see what they say. Small dealers only get so many cars/trucks.
So that dealer may not be able to get any more.

I was told the same thing at a couple dealerships when I wanted my truck with a manual trans.

I went to another dealership and bought the truck.

Go to another dealership or search nationwide and see who has the truck and go buy it.

We are both are located in Gulf States region. They won't / don't dealer trade with other regions so, unless you travel to buy it, your options for dealer trade is limited to MS, LA, AR, TX & OK.

The 2018 will probably be a 2017 with one extra feature you dont care about. If you are in no rush and the price is right, might as well consider it.

Can always cancel your "order" and get your deposit back later.

I don't know about Gulf States, but I know SE region is lousy, very controlling. I'll probably never 'order' another new vehicle anyway, but if I did, and it was to be a Toyota, it wouldn't be through the SE region. It's been 13 years and I'm still ticked at their maneuvers.

OP, here is a link to a thread that shows regions, and comments from buyers. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-toyota-region-to-buy-in.443026/

Use the internet to your advantage. Find dealers in other regions and use email to shop. While it's close to time to stop building '17's (high inventories, tooling changes for '18, possible short plant closings for 'vacation' etc) it is hard to believe there aren't a few left sitting somewhere.

    Good luck!

I'm not sure if it's TRD pro specific, but just left a deposit and placed an order on a TRD off road last night (although they did say they were going to try to redirect a truck with what I want before placing a build order). I'm in New England, if regional differences matter.

I got mine about a month back, decided to take the plunge when I read some of the rumors of changes to 2018 models. I got the same information (can't order any more 2017 in cement) from numerous dealers (All either under Golf states or Southeast Toyota distributor mafia) to make me think it was not a dealer sales pitch. A few said they couldn't actually order from Toyota until around June, and that would be for Sept/Oct delivery of 2018 model. None seemed to think cement was not available for 2018.
I simply used internet tools to search inventory (there were a number of Cement Pros sitting on lots), and called / emailed around. But I was prepared to travel so that increased what was available considerably.

Not sure how far you are willing to travel, but looks like there are at least 3 available within 1k miles of New Orleans (Not sure if this URL will work, but use autotrader and filter down on tacoma trd pro grey)

Gulf States is just as bad. I think the ONLY decent thing either of these distributor/mafia firms do is force a decent amount of training on the dealers, which usually means "slightly" better quality of maintenance on your vehicle. But, by no means does that mean any particular Dealership is better in these areas than another one outside their grasp, only that the average / mean level seems better since they force more training expectations than Toyota do.

From what I understand, Toyota schedules to make so many then distributes them equally throughout the dealerships. So if your dealership is dry, try another.

We bought my wife's RAV4 from a Mid Atlantic dealer after trying to find one at a dealership closer to us that is in the Southeast region. Salesman at the SE dealer acted like other dealer might as well been on the moon as far as getting the car she wanted from the other dealership. He kept trying to make one that was in his region work even though it wasn't the car she wanted as far as options. Went through an exercise similar on our next purchase when we bought my truck. The dealership we bought her car from had a Tacoma that I liked and I couldn't find one like it in the region we live in. To the dealerships credit they made the process painless even with us being out of state for them.

Believe it or not I think we are getting close to the 2017 cut off , the 2018 official order banks will open in early May.

Your truck is on the lot at my local dealer (was this morning anyway).

They are out there. Just be ready to pay for it to be delivered or drive.

The 2018 won't be diesel anyway and the only changes will probably be insignificant, so it's not that big of a deal. But I'd rather not wait a super long time for a truck that may be a color I don't like; already know I like the cement.

When I was looking, dealers told me I can't order: they dont' do that (toyota in general or tacoma specifically, I forget). two dealers asked what I wanted and they would find it for me, that was in November of 15, but I got busy and stopped looking for a bit, so I didn't tell them to look for something. I didn't start looking again until May, so memory is sketchy.
