The stereo in my 2000 Tacoma stopped working over 50,000 miles ago (I'm currently at 232k). It's never bothered me because I use my phone for audio, and the speakers on it are plenty loud for my ears and the talk radio content I listen to.

I'd love to remove the stereo all together and replace it with some type of storage, but I can't seem to find anything. Is anyone aware of a third party accessory that would fit the bill? I'd be happy with a simple recessed shelf large enough to hold my wallet, phone, or other stuff.

Simple to make something metal or plastic.

draw what you need with all the dimensions and holes located type of material and thickness.

I doubt you'll find an aftermarket solution, because most people want a radio. There would be a very tiny market for removing it. Do you know anyone with a 3D printer and UV resistant printing media? I think that is probably going to be your best bet.

Pull the current head unit, drill out the guts, reinstall the skeletal frame of your former radio. Boom. Free shelf. :cookiemonster:

Or, ya know... Replace the HU with a Bluetooth ready unit, like what most people do when they want to listen to their phone in the car.
