Tacomaworld is one of the best forum I've been on. All the member here is great. I'll be sticking around. I hope to get back in a Tacoma soon. Now the new ride is a Brand new 2013 4runner trail edition. It's no Tacoma but it's one bad SUV I'll tell that much.

If I didn't need a truck, I'd have one of those.

This is my first 4WD truck I'm hoping some can help me out on how to use the transfer case. I got the trail edition and it's the one with the lever. You can shift it to H2, H4, N and L4. From what is got from the owner's manual you can engage H4 as long as you're under 50mph. So I'm guessing its shift on the fly. So I can engage and disengage anytime under 50mph right? And for L4 do I put the drive gear and transfer case gear in Neutral before putting it L4 and D?

What ever the terain calls for speed wise, or wheel speed wise.

D is fine, but you will probably find you want to control the shifting and pick a gear.

Like said already, don't use either 4hi or 4lo on pavement or the like.

Is the lever actually linked or is it like an auto transmission and won't shift unless safe?

Is it really bad to engage 4h when driving straight at recommended speed? I'm trying to figure the best possible way to get in the 10 miles each month in 4wd to keep gear lubricated.

Congrats on the SR5! I'd be driving that vehicle too if I didn't find the open bed cargo area so useful.
