Looks like they just complied with the obamacare law early. Didn't know there were parts off it stopping drug stores from selling tobacco.

I guess soon other pharmacies will have to stop too.

Cigarettes are the only product CVS sells that when used as intended will kill you.

All this whining about nanny state is funny, people bemoan the lack of civility in the world, but when a company puts doing what's right ahead of the almighty dollar they get beat up. You just can't win. Props to CVS I'm going to start shopping there.

They just complied with a law early, most likely trying to market there brand as a caring company. Its been in the news a good bit and people seem to like it. May even get a few new customers for cutting tobacco early and profit from the decision.

I think they would make the marketing dept. At any big tobacco company proud... Or jealous.:D

I read that article in the OP and didn't see where it said they would be legislated to stop selling tabacco at a later date due to new healthcare laws

As a now ex-smoker, I still feel as I always did. Since smoking is so fkn bad the government should ban tobacco. Then again, if they do that there's a lot of tax revenue they lose out on huh!

Don't get me wrong, I know and always knew it wasn't a great habit, but was a choice I made as an adult..and as a minor for 3 years.

I agree it seems contradictory for a pharmacy to sell tobacco. FWIW, in MA I've never seen a CVS that sells alcohol.

OZ, only 10-11 bucks a pack? I remember them costing about 5-6 a pack about 30 yrs ago when I was in Nova Scotia that summer.

Oh yeah bro and you don't even have to go inside. There's a guy at the entrance that will deliver to your car window.

My cousin (I believe still in the Nova Scotia area, but when I went there we were in Judique, NS) said a while ago they were 10 a pack..and there was a large black market for them as well which is how he got his.

There is not a company in the world, especially in the US, that is going to take a 2 billion dollar hit to it's revenue without trying to get that back somewhere else. That is a positive spin provided willingly, by CVS, to make themselves look good. Is it good. Yes. But. They will get that 2 billion from every other product they sell by increasing the price on 95% (random but probably accurate %) of their products. It's a business. A huuuugge business. They're not giving up their $$$$.
