No offence, but is this whole ‘TRD’ thing stupid?

    Also a decent Monday morning read, lol.

    Being new to Tacoma, I wondered about TRD also, since I am pretty sure my SR5 (only available with 6AT) is just as fast as a TRD, and also won't over heat on that July desert run.

    Nice thread @Stocklocker

    I de-badge my TRD within the first month of purchase. I suggest you do the same if you find the TRD badging offensive.

    Gotta love train wreck threads.

    Anyway, two points. One TRD models are like all vehicles, they benefit from what's learned in motorsports. So in a sense we're all TRD now even if the Tundras and Camrys we drive are worlds different than NASCAR and SCORE ones, they're still better for it.

    Originally TRD in the truck world got you locker and improved suspension and it did mean something. Racing isn't always about going faster on a track. Baja and rock crawling are also motor sports and a 1996 TRD Tacoma was better than an SR5.

    It's become a victim of it's own marketing success. There once was also a time AMG meant ridiculous street cars but they are helping in the ruin of 4x4s.

    That's an expensive sticker to throw away.If you figure all Tacoma's are overpriced by $10K that sticker probably has a $2K premium built in.

    Compared to wages all trucks are selling at an historical premium price. Going by the standard six month of wages rule the average buyer should be grossing $75 K a year to afford the $37 ,500 price tag of the 4x4 off road.

    Vote all you want. I vote chicken and waffles. Oh wait no one asked any question and Toyota and the rest of us don’t care.

    I think OP is asking for someone to read off the brochure of trim level packages.

    @OP -- it's a moniker; it defines the brand.
    If it wasn't TRD then it would be something else, and then you'd probably groan about that too.

    They all come into TW innocently enough. SR's, SR5's, OR's & even PRO's. But once they get here, their never the same ever again. WE are TRD. Should have a TW edition cuz that's what they become.

    A salesman at the dealer (I didn't buy my truck from) tried to inform me that TRD trucks have like 4 coats of base paint and 3 coats of clear so they don't scratch As easy and the SR5 only has 1 of each. He also told me every TRD engine was ran 24hrs straight before being installed, so no break in is required. It took everything i had during the test drive to not laugh in his face. I was waiting to hear that the only thing that can hurt the truck is kryptonite.
