I just recently picked up a 2006 Tacoma sr5 from a crappy dealership locally and I’m in love with the truck. It’s my first tacoma and I’m so excited!

driving around today and yesterday I noticed the truck will not go into overdrive. All other gears seem to shift normally and even if I drop it into 4, it won’t shift into overdrive if i put it back into drive. I was turning about 2500 rpms on the highway at 55-60 mph. The truck also idles a little rough. I’m going to clean the IAC and do the normal tune up stuff because it has 100k on it.
I checked the fluid level today through the overfill hole and I had a slight dribble like the write ups said I should have. Fluid appeared dirty but didn’t smell bad or show signs of being burnt out.

thanks for any help! I’m really looking forward to getting to work on this Tacoma. It’s my first Tacoma, coming over from Jeeps

Not too familiar with the auto's maybe it's just a simple idiot check but do you have the PWR or ECT button/mode engaged? Is the O/D switch engaged?

I haven’t found an od switch other than the gear selector.

Figured there was a button on the selector like old auto Yota's had.

    :notsure:

    I drive a stick.

Lucky you! I found a halfway good deal on this truck and I’m finding out that I got taken pretty good. It has a bunch of tiny issues that need fixed

Any used car is like that, your Tacoma is a good truck and with a little maintenance it'll be mint, TW is an excellent resource for maintenance and repair.

Welcome to the family use search and when that fails as it often does just google "Tacomaworld.com: [Search subject]" if you still can't find it, start a new thread in the appropriate section and someone should help you out relatively quick.

Thanks for the responses guys. I made the worst rookie mistake of not trying the easiest thing first. I didn’t even try disconnecting the battery and my friend suggested it and guess what. Truck works just like it should.
