I wasn't able to find either part number however I did find a couple emission hoses that fit at autozone. City them to length and installed.

Should I wait for the CEL to clear. meaning the required amount of drive cycles were obtained or should have my mechanic clear the code and see if it comes back on?

I would clear it… an O’Reillys should be able to do that for you but they will try to sell you something… and see if there are any pending codes.

An evap code will eventually clear on its own.....but It takes a long time....

    best to clear it....

If your code comes back after all this .....its time for the o' cigar smoke trick...

or can make a smoke machine from an old soldering iron and a tin can/ jar....

OP, you didn't mention if you're due for smog check is due or not? If not, consider yourself lucky, because you've bought yourself some time. And when you need a smog check, according to the BAR, you can have ONLY 1 'Monitor Ready Condition' https://www.bar.ca.gov/industry/obd-test-reference#readiness

My story is similar, although mine is a 2nd gen taco and needed a smog check asap. I also got the dreaded P0456 code with the check engine light on. After replacing the gas cap with a new OEM one, and after doing a smoke test (no leaks), I would still get a P0456!

Turns out, it was the charcoal cannister, even though a smoke test on the old one was air tight and didn't reveal any leaks. Also, it took a long time and a lot of miles before the EVAP readiness monitor cleared up after replacing the charcoal cannister (Toyota EVAPs are finicky regard this). Good luck and hope this helps.

Yes sir TacoTuesday, I am due for a smog check at the end of October. I always try to stay on top of auto issues and repairs. I am hoping once I have the CEL cleared it won't come back.

Tacoman, I tried that the first time but it did not clear it.

Wait a minute. Smoke will come out of the gas cap area normally if the vent valve is open (by default). So my test was not a complete one. Need to be able to manually close the vent valve without a scan tool.

    Anyone know how to???

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Have you replaced any brittle and/or dry rotted vacuum lines?

Yes. I replaced a small 3" line that connects to a hard line on one end and to the intake on the other. Was hard and brittle and crumbled when I removed it.

No other leaks at the engine. Without being able to open the vent valve, my smoke test won't find the leak. It might end up being a purge valve leak but without completely closing the system I won't know.

Tired of paying shops to do the tests. I am close to finding it! Need someone who has successfully manually opened the vent valve to provide me the expertise.

I don't think the problem is on the gas tank end, i.e. hoses, hose clamps, vent valve (already confirmed by the shop that is is working properly).

I'm learning that as well. I don't like throwing the parts cannon at my truck either.

It would be good money spent buying a entry level scan tool for this. I use BlueDriver for all of my initial test, others prefer scanGauge. Regardless the tool you should verify that it can check pending codes.

Before the PCM turns on the CEL for any code a certain set of tests are run and unless the test that is being run is a minor check, like evap leaks, it might take 2 or more drive cycles for the light to come on. Before the light comes on the PCM sets a “pending” code. If you can time it right meaning that all the monitors have run and all you have is a pending evap leak, you should be able to get her smogged, this will give you 2 years to figure this out. This is where the scan tool saves your rear.

So you are saying my truck will pass smog with a pending code? I bought a scanner and cleared the CEL and pending codes about 3 days ago. The light has not come back yet.

Interesting. My tool does not have a smog check selection but it does show which monitors are OK and which are INC , guessing that means incomplete. I would have to check again but I believe there were 2 INC, one for cat and the other I can't remember but having to do with eva8.

For the readiness monitors to run/complete the vehicle has to complete a minimum of 2 drive cycles. Look up the drive cycle requirements for your truck.

Cat monitor test completed. Pending code is now PO446. I may just have to bite the bullet and have the same shop find the leak. I just watched another YouTube video and the mechanics test resulted in a leak coming from the rollover valve. I guess I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

    Yet another update...

Mechanic replaced charcoal cannister. Now he says the vsv valve is not getting the signal from the PCM. Mechanic going to order a reman PCM and install soon as it comes in. This better be it. I'm tired of spending $$$ on this truck.
