No power, sluggish.

The truck does need more power I agree. Mine is sluggish as well. I thought it might get better after break in but it still needs a bit more juice. I would like to turbo or tune it.

 

I'd have to go back thru the tsbs at work to tell you exactly.

I noticed that it was sluggish in the first 5 minutes of my test drive...

 

They need to just put the 4.6 v8 in the Tacoma. That's the only way hey can take me from the 1st or 2nd gen. Manual + v8 would be perfect.

 

I'd rather have a turbo Atkinson engine.

The Atkinson cycle is what is causing the low-end low performance.

I was considering a tundra with that motor until I saw the tow rating... tacoma is within a couple hundred pounds.

 

Wouldn't it be the same but with more kick when it gets past 4K?

 

Maybe it's because I have a MT, but I have gotten used to the power band. I am fine with it how it is now.

 

my mom had a tundra with the 4.6. I'll probably never tow anything but it was fun to drive. Definitely faster than a Tacoma 3.5 or 4.0, sounded great too

 

My problems really didn't start cropping up until I realized the transmission wasn't improving.

By this comment it appears you were seeing something you did not care far but you bought into it anyway. For what it is worth I did same thing. But don't mind the swap off for fuel mileage. Now I hope this statement doesn't come back to bite me.

 

Wait... you bought a mid size truck with a small 3.5L V6 in it and were shocked that it had no "get up and go" until you "stomp" on it???

 

It also had 33% more cylinders in it...
