OP you should of bought a Highlander. Drives like a car and has some get up.

Tacomas are a different machine. Haven't driven any Toyota that has that raw and unrefined power/transmission match.

You do realize that if the 3rd Gen Tacoma came with 500 hp, lasted forever and only cost $300 New they would still complain right? It's what they do.

I stopped reading after the 3rd post or so. Test drives may be a bit "rushed," but you still certainly have a chance to get a feel for how a vehicle accelerates. If you need a "month" to take the car home and get a feel before you decide, you're just being absurdly indecisive. If you didn't drive the vehicle how you would in normal conditions, then that's your fault. If you test drove it months ago and then bought and forgot how it drove, that's your fault. There's really no excuse for complaints like these.

FWIW if they know you're buying, you can usually get a bit more seat time. I went in and said I was "browsing," so I got the 5 minute drive. I went back a month after my test drive and said I was ready to buy, but wanted one more test drive in the "truck I would take home." I got a 10-15 mile test drive with freeway driving at all, and actually only turned back to the dealership at my choice.

I spent the past year driving a 2016 Colorado with the 3.6 that just ripped, but the tranny logic was worse than the Tacoma. This truck runs as it's engineered to. Complain about whatever you want, but 10-15 years down the road it's still going to have the highest value out there, and be running like a champ.

No need to tell me my man, tell these whiners hahahaha

    I can see it now...

"My Tacoma doesn't catch traction when it rains, does yours?"
"Anyone else think a 4Runner for $500 would have been a better choice?"
"I got beat by a Ford ecoboost" - oh wait, there's already a thread like that

It's a truck THEY bought, with THEIR choice. No one held a gun to their head.

Bitch about it once and people should leave the forum. No one likes their negativity

I like to hear a variety of opinions. I find that when everyone agrees all the time it gets boring quickly.

After all the recalls and quality issues, do you really think that is going to be the case?

The 1st and 2nd gen recalls were much worst as trucks split in half, it didn't affect their resale.

While that is true, with the 1st gen arriving in 1995 (Windows '95 WooHoo!) and the 2nd gen arriving in 2005 (Win XP!) the internet was still newish to a lot of folks and those gens did not have quite the internet sounding board that is currently available.

Now there are basically instant reviews available for almost anything.

Hollywood is actually complaining that internet reviews are what is causing their profits to shrink due to immediate bad reviews (not because their movies suck, obviously).

Look at the ShiftSense controller on this forum.

Immediate reviews and a lot of people then immediately step up to order it after good word gets out.

How many would they have sold if the first reviews had been bad?

Lots of information is good, but ultimately it's up to the consumer to weigh the available information and test it themselves before making the decision to purchase.

With all the reviews and info available on the 3rd gen Tacoma, I am quite honestly baffled how anyone could NOT realize that there was a lot of controversy around the powertrain.

Regardless the price of first and second generation Tacomas have not suffered in resale value because of recalls. More people now are aware of those early issues yet price has still remained high on the used market.

Probably not. Reading the posts the OV guys have been posting, it sounds like what we really need is a throttle cable.
