    I have a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 with a standard transmission...
I have no power... it starts and runs fine but when I push the gas it barely goes anywhere and I can't drive up hill....

    The transmission seems fine...

I have changed the oil.. oil filter... air filter... fuel filter... and it just won't get up and go at all...

I don't know if it's the wacky gas additives my state puts in the gas or what... but I have used those fuel additives that are supposed to clean that up.. and that is why I changed the fuel filter...

It just won't "go".... any ideas...???

I'll start up with maybe a plugged cat? How does the motor sound at startup, and when it starts f'in up? Any funny smells out the pipe?
Also, when was the last time you had the MAF sensor cleaned?

    I'm not a mechanic.. so what's a "plugged cat"..???
And I have no idea what a MAF sensor is...

The motor sounds fine at start up... no funny smells other than a hot smell from me trying to get it to go....

Sorry man:0 cat=catalytic converter, MAF=mass air flow sensor.
If either the cat being restricted, or the MAF being dirty are the case, you would get no power. The "heat" smell could possibly be an overheating cat/exhaust.

I would go with clogged catalytic converter as well.
You may also want to check your air filter. I have heard of squirrels and mice making nests in peoples air boxes before.

I think it may be the catalytic converter as well... I changed the air filter.....
How would I clean out the catalytic converter or do I have to replace it....????

Unfortunately, you need to get a new one. It also could be the oxygen sensor I think, which is near the cat on the exhaust. No "check engine" light?
I would take it in and have them pull engine codes.

Yea before I buy anything or go any further I'll take it in and see what they say... if I try to do it myself without really knowing what the problem is I may spend more than I need to...

Anyway... I really appreciate the feedback... thanks to both of you...

Pull the codes, it would be the easiest way to diagnose. But yea sounds like what everyone else is suggesting. But if you change any of the sensors start wwith the MAF because it could cause a false reading with the O2 sensors.
