No Reverse

I am having similar issue, however will go in reverse only in 4lo. 2006 Double cab 4wd v6. it has A750F Transmission per the door tag.
Local shop told me order new trans without even looking at it.
Could it be the differential? Any suggestions for tests to confirm? Thanks.

 

Given your truck is a 2006 , I can imagine its high in mileage .
Its not uncommon for transmission shops to call out a transmission overhaul over the phone when the customer has no reverse .
If you do have reverse in 4 lo , thats another story .
How well does the truck back up in 4 low ? I highly doubt your differentials are the issue
What kind of history does your truck and transmission have ?
Do you offroad ? Hill climb ? Mileage ? did you get the truck stuck ? does it start in park and neutral ? Have you checked the fluid level ? Do the reverse lights come on when you select reverse ?

70k hard caribbean island hill miles. No real offroading, but roads here pothole filled mess, rarely get over 40mph. Just about replace front end components every 6 years. Routine reverse in 4lo up a steep driveway with loads of 60lb bag cement.
I did a filter replacement and partial flush about 6 months ago after it started hesitating to go into gear first thing in the morning. Flush and filter helped. Fine metal particulate in screen.
Starts in P and in N.
I checked fluid level since fluid flush, but not recently.
I appreciate any guidance.

 

When you say the truck hesitated to go into gear 6 months ago , was that both directions ?
I beleive the transmission is going into reverse when in 4 low is because of the ratio change . 4 low gives the transmission a mechanical advantage over the weight of your truck .Highly suggest driving into your driveway avoiding the use of reverse until you have the truck repaired . Eventually ,the reverse clutching is going to fail completely .
Considering the transmission had metal in your screen , I agree with your transmission shops recommendation to install a rebuild or second hand transmission . You can find these transmissions at wrecking yards with low mileage for cheap . Toyota says fitment years are between 2005-2007 but I have seen members installing second hand transmissions up to 2015 that worked just fine .

Thanks for the confirmation. The hesitation to go into gear was in forward only. Admittedly, I have been rough on it and it seems the reverse has failed, except in 4low. I will likely order a rebuilt unit tomorrow from Jasper. They have one in stock and will ship to me. Will update on what happens. Thanks again.

 

I ordered a new transmission through an exporter in florida and have a local mechanic installing it this weekend. Attached is photo. Part number says 6818AA, the VIN tag on my truck says A750F. Os there any way to verify that this is the right transmission?

I would need to see a picture of the complete transmission to identify if its an F model . The serial number in the picture could be Jaspers .

Yes , that is a very bad habit .
not coming to a complete stop before changing directions is a transmission killer .
When you change directions on the fly , your transmission absorbs the weight of your truck while its rolling .If you do the math on rolling mass , you are placing an incredible load on your transmission . These transmissions are tough but not that tough .
Kicks the hell out of your hard parts . Kicks the hell out of your transmission casing . Fills the pan with aluminum and steel .
Eventually , this habit will catch up with you
