No Spare Tire or Alternative Mounting?

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by WormSquirts, Dec 21, 2016.

?

Is running a spare necessary?

  1. Absolutely, you're stupid for even considering not having one.

  2. With the right equipment, I'd be confident on most trails without one...

I carry all that and more. I carry parts for other vehicles becasue most of the time they are what's blocking the trail and not me. 4 u-joints; Toyota, 1310, 1330, 1350, U-joint strap kits. Dana 44 Upper and Lower Ball joints, Toy 8" Trunion Bearings. High steer stubs for 8" Toy, D44 and D60. Spare hubs; Toy 8" D44 and D60. Chevy TRE's. Belts, hoses, plugs, 4qts oils, PS, brake, gear oil for whatever I'm driving.

If you know what you're doing it doesn't take up much room. A couple of 50 cal army cans and you've saved someones day, and cleared the trail.

When I ran radials on my TJ buggy, I got 8 flats in two years, I always ran a spare, several trips I got 2 flats. Switched to 43" Swamper TSL SX's, zero flats and no spare.

If something is going to break on the average Tacoma outing, I see it being a tire.

Foolish risks, why else 4 wheel :rofl::rofl: kidding, I know what you mean.

I put my 255-85-16 on a stock matching wheel in the bed.
I have a bed cover so it is not seen to make folks want to steal it.
I would bring two if they would fit!.
The rest of the bed is filled up with more stuff, tools, recovery stuff, standard road things.
I shreaded a rear one time on the freeway. There would have been no plugging, (I have that kit also) or putting a tube in it.
I just prefer to have it and change a wheel than try all the other options that may work.
