Thanks for the posts. Over the course of the next couple days, I started it less than 10 times. Once I had to whack it, but it worked. I had a doctor's appointment about knee replacement surgery (mine, not his) so I risked driving 50 miles there. Halfway back it didn't respond to several beatings at the Costco fuel pumps. $300 lighter in the wallet the tow truck dropped us off at home.

I started tackling the replacement project yesterday. Took an hour to remove the lug nuts. 2 were 21mm, easy. But the socket didn't fit over any of the other ones. I tried metric and SAE. The ones too large started to strip. Didn't have much to loose so hammered the 21mm onto the rest. IMG_8739.jpg

Was able to get the leads off no problem and the bottom starter bolt. But the top one was a problem. Even though I could reach it with my universal extension there wasn't enough throw room to loosen it. And the I stripped the head a tad so I've thrown in the towel and will have it towed to the shop. $85 for a tow and $200 for the replacement were quotes given. Won't be fixed for a week so I'll have to continue to ride 5 miles through the forest trails to buy beer, my main concern. Hmmm...might have to eat something in the next week, too...

In the meantime I'll look to buy a set of lug nuts. What's up with that?

I've read that the OEM lugnuts have a stamped cap on them, and over time that can swell causing standard sockets and metric to not fit! No fix as far as I know other than to buy new lugnuts or change to aftermarket that doesn't have that design. Sorry to hear about the starter, it's a pain to get to those bolts for sure!

Yeah, my lugs did the same thing.
I ended up buying a special socket just for them. It is a 21.5mm.
I got tired of beating the lugs out of the 21mm.

    Got it from Amazon.

Dude sorry to hear about your stranding... And the cost. Good luck on the repairs. Are they installing a new / rebuilt starter or are they going to repair your solenoid?

So 3 years later I ran into the same no click, no crank, no start issue. This was the best thread on the issue but still didn’t 100% match my issue. In the past I had several instances where my shifter felt like I was dragging it through wet cement, after some spray lube it loosened up and worked fine… Jimmyh’s post- led me to question the neutral safety switch. After rapping on the starter / solenoid with no luck I jiggled the neutral safety switch linkage (the last jiggle being in the direction of Park)… fired right up. My truck thought it was in gear and refused to start. Search neutral safety switch on here for guidance and make sure it has a firm seat in the park direction before pulling the starter / solenoid etc. thanks Jimmyh.
