I’ve been traveling and finally back and ready to tackle this job. I got sent a couple of the smallest shims (thanks o’silver_taco!) and a Kawasaki valve shim tool. I hope this goes well.

Good luck with it. I did my V6 Taco's valves and a buddy's V6 last summer. I see you profile says Northern AZ, I'm located in Prescott so if you need a 2nd set of hands to switch out those couple shims let me know and I'd be happy to help.

Just finished this job- not too bad. On my valve that had no lash I am now at 0.012 after inserting a shim sent to me by O’silver_taco. My other valve I am now at 0.006 after sanding it down a bit! All told it didn’t take me long and wasn’t a difficult job. I didn’t have the Toyota valve tool and used the Kawasaki valve shim tool (motion pro pn 08-0019).

The inside of my throttle body had some kinda of build up, possibly fuel and dirt? Normal after 240000. .

I believe the PCV allows some small amounts of oil up into there too. Probably more oil and dirt than fuel

I cleaned out the TB and the idle air control before reassembly.

Ahhh- I just replaced the pcv and grommet. Hope that helps.

I wiped it out but a thorough cleaning couldn’t hurt.
