Just noticed the other day that voice commands aren't available while in reverse gear. I'm running a stock non-JBL head unit on a 2020 SR5 automatic without a phone plugged in.

Anyway just thought it was curious and something I've never noticed before. Maybe it's a safety thing for whatever reason.

It's probably a way of saying "hey, you're backing up, pay attention to the job at hand".

It is a safety feature, so you have to pay attention when backing up. Also, some functions will not work while you are driving for the same reason. It is normal.
