Hey all, I have a 2020 TRD off-road that is 2wd. I changed the diff fluid today, and while I was underneath the truck, I looked for zerk fittings on the u joints to grease them up. I haven’t found one zerk fitting, are they non serviceable??

    They are sealed non-serviceable bearings.

Now, let the augments of which is "better" begin. :deadhorse:

Hose them down with some WD40 (not)

BTW, I've yet to find one on my 2019 OR.

My '17 Off Road 4x4 has 2 front greasable zerks. The rest are sealed.

I vaguely remember 2WD driveshafts have been non-serviceable for a long time, since the 2nd gen days.

Not a metallurgist guy here but there is thought that non greasable ones are stronger due to not having the grease veins. What's on there (Spicer) is a decent brand and should stand up to wheeling and some abuse.

From what I've seen they last about the same, if the greaseable is greased.

Toyota started to eliminate the chances of failures by getting rid of greaseable fittings, it actually started on 2nd gen with a TSB. 3rd gen was slow to it.

I've run greasable and non-greaseable and prefer non. Both have failed for the same reason.

My last front set died because I forgot to take the truck out of 4x4 when I was hauling dirt bikes out of a mountain trail.

Took 2 hours of highway driving to realize it :bananadead:

Yikes, good thing it was the U joints and not the transfer case.

With driveline it's always the weakest point, usually joints. My shaft has play internally but nothing crazy.

4runners with full time AWD suffer the same problem with time.

Thankfully u joints are 30$ each and take 30 mins to do.

    Correct, 4x4 models did, 2WD didn't.

    Here is an interesting read.

“Bottom line on strength: The non-greaseable joint is slightly stronger than a greaseable joint. The exact number, how much stronger, is unknown and we do not believe it to be very significant.

Bottom line on wear life: A regularly greased greaseable joint will outlive a non-greaseable joint. But a non-greaseable joint will outlive a greaseable joint that does not get greased properly.’
