    Hi all,

I replaced a cv axle about 150 miles or so ago. There were no noises or anything irregular for the first 150 miles. But I took a trip of about 100 miles yesterday, and at the end a slight whirring, buzzing sound between 25-40 mph became present, but only when gas is being applied. Sounds like it is coming from the front, but neither side in particular. The sound is present during 2wd and when the hubs are unlocked, which leads me to believe that the cv axles wouldn't be the issue, since they shouldn't be spinning when in 2wd and free hubs. Changing to 4wd or locking the hubs makes no difference in the sound. I believe I installed the axle correctly, it is in place, lined up with the diff, and can move in and out a couple of millimeters, identical to the opposing one. Revving the engine at a standstill does not make the sound. Turning either direction, or driving with one hub locked and one hub unlocked, makes no difference in the sound.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or tests I should try to narrow down potential issues? Can I safely rule out the new CV axles? I appreciate the time and help.
