I'm also betting on the slack / loose part of the chain. Maybe it is piled up on top of the wheel instead of hanging down through the hub hole.

It could be a bearing or washer plate in your rear axle or differential. I heard a similar rattle/loose change kind of noise and that was it

I'm thinking the spare chain that hangs loose might be causing the noise as well.

If I'm not mistaken , the newer trucks have a braided cable instead of a chain for the spare tire carrier , my 08 is a cable . (Just had the spare down last week). Process of elemination , start hitting things with your hand till something jingles. Chasing noises can be a PITA ! You'll find it

Sorry for the bad info , my 2008 has a braided cable that carries the spare , didn't realize they went back to a chain , my bad .

I had a similar noise on my 2015 and it was the spare tire chain. The noise was made worse because the port-installed spare tire lock option had somehow worked loose and was rattling around on top of the spare. I hit it with a good dab of silicon and shoved it back in place.

Hopefully that's it, I'll try to loosen it up a bit in case it's too tight and the slack is clinging around. I got under the truck and had a hammer wrapped with a towel and lightly tapped on parts to see if I could find the noise and nothing. But, then again I didn't wanna hit too hard. I may just drop the spare and look around up there and then raise it back up and test drive it. Hopefully that's all it is. Thanks for all the tips, I'll let y'all know how it goes when I get some time on Friday.

I removed my spare tire from under there. Now the chain that held it in place rattles when I'm off road. Have you checked to see if that chain is making the noise? It sounds much like a big sack full of coins.

Mine made a similar sound and thought it was the rear brakes going bad. when shop looked at it, brakes were fine but I needed a brake hardware kit as parts had rusted and started breaking. and trapped in drum and sounded like change in a dryer. they put hardware kit in and the noise went away.

Good to know, I'll check all the hardware on my rear brakes. Still haven't had time to check the spare yet but I started thinking, if it is the spare tire chain, why do I not hear it at speeds over 15mph when I hit small divets in the road?

My 2005 is making a similar noise and from what I can tell it's the alignment tabs on the rear of the leaf springs.
That being said I haven't bothered trying to find a fix yet because next week I am having the TSB done.

I need to do my TSB but too lazy to remove my AAL and then install in the new pack. Plus time is very rare for me right now since I'm moving in 2 weeks. I'll look at mine, thanks for the tip.

Removing my AAL is the project for this weekend just waiting on replacement spring pack bolts because when I cut down the original ones I chewed up the threads.

have you checked your drums? a broken spring could sound like this.

That I haven't checked. Whereabouts would I? When it comes to brakes I know how to change calipers, pads, and rotors, but never messed with drums.

yea drum brakes are kind of a lost art, since you hardly have to mess with it. I would suggest jacking up the rear in neutral. (make sure ur on level ground with blocks) and turn the wheels to see if you can replicate the issue. if its a drum you will be able to hear it. Also though it could be missing a bushing on an exhaust hanger might double check that as well. Seems like a lot of people have said to check the spare tire chain (I agree). But make sure the slack isn't maybe dangling down and hitting on something.
