I just got back from an off-roading/camping trip and was washing off my truck and I noticed that while it was idling I would hear an intermittent rattle noise. I got on my creeper and used a stethoscope and found it was loudest at the trans pan.

it only happens when the rpm’s change (go slightly higher) at idle.

I checked my fluid level before I left and it’s still dead on. I have valvoline maxxlife in the trans currently.

I’m going to start by tightening things in that area, I’m hoping something is just loose or a rock is caught somewhere from wheeling (trying not to think catastrophic thoughts).

    anyone ever experience this?

update: upon further inspection, found the noise was coming from the kickdown cable on the transmission. I replaced the brake booster last week before my trip and removed the bracket on the driver’s side of the intake manifold closest to the firewall, which the kickdown cable is attached to. .

found that the cable was not in the correct position and was sitting next to the bracket. I put the cable back into its original location and that relieved the tension on the cable that was causing this noise.

    thankfully nothing catastrophic…
