There is a noise that sounds like a small motor very near the instrument panel upon starting the vehicle with the START button. The duration of the noise is only about a second long and occurs again after using the START button to stop the engine AND opening the door.

I am convinced this is standard operation for the vehicle. Does anybody know the specifics of what is happening?

It might be the steering wheel lock. Probably a servo.

Seems that is just what it is after a bit more experimenting. Thanks

    Welcome to the site!

I commonly hear a whirling noise for a few seconds after I turn off my truck. My truck is an M/T and uses a key so no steering lock servo. In my case I think I’m hearing the fan for the infotainment system winding-down.
