noise rear of truck

    i have a 2wd access cab 4cyl automatic trans 12,000 miles 2008 ... around 40mph i get a noise rear of truck when trans shifts into high if i put it back into 3rd goes away i do not feel any vibration in stick or steering wheel truck does not shake..sometimes it happens at high speed 65mph ...but i do not put it in 3rd gear at that speed

    Mostly stock for now, I have added a cb radio, various cheap mods and I plan on adding aftermarket wheels and other items in the future.
    Could the wheels be mounted wrong or missing a balance weight?

    Have you driven through any heavy rainstorms lately? Large puddles?

    Now that I think of it again I don't think a missing weight would make a noise but whatever, it's good too rule out everything.

    Crawl underneath your truck and look for this:

    Thats the shielding from the gas tank bent back into the driveshaft. It caused a squealing noise for me. It happened when I rolled through a big puddle on the way home during a downpour. Could be your problem.

    i checked for a missing tire weight checked driveshaft play u joint play .....it goes away when i downshift into 3rd from drive ..i do not feel any vibration when holding shifter or thru steering wheel or gas pedal ...

    Yeah Its really lightweight sheet metal. I guess I'm not the only one who's had this problem before, so I thought I'd throw it out there.
