Noise and vibration is coming from the picture area. I don’t have a cabin air filter in my 04, but it’s below where the cabin air filter would have been. Any thoughts? Sounds like something small is struggling to run.

    thanks for your time.

None of us have cabin air filters in our 1st gens, unfortunately. Do you have heat/AC? (I think everyone has heat, so the answer is probably yes.) Assuming you do, the area under the glove box is where the fan blower motor/box. That's pretty easy to remove - just two screws for the glove box (which might even be optional but gives you more access) and then three screws for the blower motor.

Here's my blower motor, unscrewed but still hanging via the power harness. could be that you have leaves (or something) in there that are making noise as it spins.

thanks for the reply Yes, I have AC. But I hear that noise even without the fan turned on. Picture I posted looks like a big black plastic cover, but in fact it’s pretty small, maybe 4 x 4 inches. That’s where I felt vibration/noise. Should it make noise without the fan switch on? And it’s sporadic. It’s not consistent.

I only hear the noise when the truck is running. But the fan switch is off. I could put my hand on it and feel the noise and vibration.

Likely one of the blend door actuators is struggling. To help diagnose, when you're hearing the sound, switch your hvac controls all the way to heat, and then all the way to cold. If the sound goes away then it's the hot/cold blend door. If that isn't it, you can switch on and off the air recirculate, if that changes/eliminates the sound then you're likely dealing with the fresh air blend door actuator. There are some aftermarket replacement door actuators for sale on Rockauto for like $30 if that ends up being your issue.

Thank you. Totally sounds like what it could be. Appreciate your insight.

    You were correct. Thank you.
The noise went away when I turned the HVAC controls to hot and then cold. Then I pushed the fresh air/recirculate button on and heard noise, so I turned off, and the sound hasn’t returned.

So fresh air intake door is always open now. Even with the AC on. I know I’m gonna wanna close when winter comes.
It seems to be the actual air recirculate button but I could be wrong it could be just the door not the actuator. I learned a lot thinking about this. Thank you.

FWIW: The fresh air intake is the normal mode of operation, even in the winter. The heater core and system can deal with ice-cold air coming in during the winter. You probably would not want to defeat this to go with/select recirculated air only. In many scenarios you'll end up with interior fogged-up windows with constantly reciruclated inside air, moreso if you have passengers or wet gear and floor trays in the truck.

Yes, point well made. I still have the problem though. If I ever want to close it, I have to deal with the noise. What do you think it is?

    Glad u survived Beryl

I got 3 travel trailer estimates to do on Boliver P. on Monday

It’s a small servo motor that you need
Think there are 2, maybe three
I have found which one(like you have done) is needed by touch
Then go to Toyota microfiche to determine which exact servo you need

    Always Brother.

thank goodness my old taco has cables(as does my other vehicles)

    read up on the replacement
I have read tht major parts need to be removed to access servo motors

    IMO
As long as you can contort you body enough(yoga helps…lol) you can access the door motors

I.E. I’d rather take out a 4 bolt seat than take out 1/2 the dash any day
