So I've noticed twice now that when I'm turning and the front end starts to slide in the snow I hear a faint grinding noise from the front end and I can feel a corresponding vibration in the floor. I only notice it when sliding. Is it from the Auto LSD?
    I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD-Sport DCLB with 85k miles.

Also, unrelated, how often do you have tappet noise checked? I'm fairly new to the Tacoma and I'm not used to an engine making a ticking all the time.

It’s the traction control you are hearing and feeling. Tacoma engines tick, normal.

This. Mine does it every time I lock up the brakes or slide around on snow/ice.

My traction control never makes that noise or vibration.

If it's pulsing when youre pressing the brakes, then it's the ABS. If the vibration is when turning only (not pressing the brakes) then it's the VSC. My ABS also kicks in alot when braking on snow

It's ABS engaging. The ticking is valve noise, a lot of people complain about it.

I only have ABS in my truck. I've driven another Tacoma with traction, and it made a bang sound when it kicked in.

Okay, I may still take a look at all the joints down there. Don't want anything breaking!

Yeah, but in the manual it says that Toyota checks the Tappet noise every 5 thousand miles if you take it into the dealer.

What he is describing (the grinding noise) is exactly what I hear and vibration in the brake peddle when I hit my brakes hard. Just had a heard of Mule Deer run out in front of me on a straight highway and that is what I experienced? Wasn't turning at all.

Agreed if turning and no brakes its VSC. Its a way more mild noise IMO though and not really a "grinding".

Edit: Just read the OPs post again. He did say it was faint so yea I would go with VSC haha. :D

It's fairly mild sound, I just don't know of a better way to describe it. Its not loud, just noticeable.

Yea i hear ya, id say the VSC is more of a rapid loud clicking noise than a grinding noise

VSC uses the ABS, so the sounds are going to be near the same.

The 6 cylinder engine has solid buckets for tappets... No adjustment.
