cant find anything on this, Last week I installed fox 2.5 front and rear. I am getting a dull thunking sound at lower speeds. I have hit some rough stuff at higher speeds and it’s silent. It doesn’t happen often and not Rythmic. Doesn’t sound like loose popping sway bar links. Best way for me to describe is sounds like a bmw when you hit a bump.I am wondering if it’s the solid lower bushing just causing a little more noise then the soft rubber bushes? This weekend I went through and torqued everything again to include Lca and all is well. I guess I am just wondering should I expect a little more noise with this setup?

    Thank you

I noticed the same thing when I installed my Fox 2.5 and Camburg UCA. I can't confirm anything but your theory of less rubber joints resulting in worse NVH makes sense to me. I've also checked several times for loose hardware and haven't found anything.

How much lift are you running?

I am running about 2.5 inches, been thinking it might be coil bind but kind of doubt it. I guess I could drop the from a little and see what happens.

When running them over 2.5" you can get a clunk when the shock extends and hits full extension. You'll feel it on speed bumps, pot holes, and things like that.

Strange part is i am feeling it on the street around 15-25 mph, no large pumps just normal street. When I drive faster I don’t hear it.

These things are a headache, I swapped out a cheap ready lift that actually rode about the same as these with no noises.

Thank you for the info .

Hmm, it'll definitely make noise on the street if that's your issue. That's not to say it couldn't be something else though.

Most aftermarket shocks are tuned to perform similar to stock ... too soft for off-road (front), and can be harsh on washboard (rear). We take every shock apart and retune them by hand to fix these issues.

I have the same issue with my 2.5s. I’m at stock fox height, plus 1 over stock with camburg uppers.

It’s a noticeable thump on compression, low speed. The thump is a the start of compression not from bottoming out. The problem is it is not easily replicated on the same bump at same speed. I think it is something to do with the valve stack in the shock.

I to have camburgs and have ruled them out. I Believe you may have hit the nail on the head. It’s rather irritating as it only does at lower speeds, on compression and completely random. just loud enough to piss me off. Spent a lot on this crap and I had less problems with a spacer lift.

Anyone have a suggestion on who could fix this or is it subjective and kind of hopeless to try?

Interesting, are they remote reservoir shocks or IFP shocks?

Hmm, have you had anyone check that they're charged to 200 psi?

If you're local we'll check for free.

Also worth checking the lower bolts and heim joints, although those usually cause more of a rattle.

Thanks for the reason to buy a shock charging setup, what’s one more tool :).

Thank you for the info and the offer, unfortunately I am stationed in Germany. Being here is making this problem worse then it is as if I have to send them in to be fixed I’ll be out a car for at least 3 weeks.

I have been messing with my stuff today. I lowered the front down between a quarter and half inch and the noise has slightly decreased. I have however found movement in my camburg control arms at the ball joint. Awaiting there email on how to move forward.

Working on it, dissent offroad racks, shift sense pro, pedal commander , ARB twin, rigid SS dually's , dual batteries, ARB fridge , 2.5 Fox coil overs wResi , 2.5 Fox rears w resi Total chaos UCA , deaver packs , Nitto trail grappler's 33" .
Yikes I just bought these with dsc’s front and back...
    I’m planning 2” front 1.5” rear.
    Going to run 285/75/16’s
Maybe being 1/2” lower in front will help?
Plus I’ll have them all checked for proper psi .

I think this is very rare. There are thousands of people on the forum and only two with issues.

Running over 2.5" lift is not recommended.

I am sure your install will go well. I suppose each set is unique. I took trd advice and lowered my coils a little and the noise is there but less than before. My stock height was 21 inches and lifted was about 23 1/16. I am running 1/4 inch plates as well, I ran these in hopes I wouldnt have to crank the coils and avoid coil bind but Guess it still did. Right now I am running at about 22.6 inches I would like to try lower but the. It won’t clear my 285’s

Thank to everyone for the advice.(still waiting to hear from camburg regarding my uca that only have 200 miles and a bad ball joint(yes tourqued and greased correctly).

Yep, sounds like it’s a bit better . I’m going at 2” Total front with 1/4 more on drivers side for taco lean .
I’ll put airbags on so when my popup is on rear.
    Good thread great info

The tolerances on Tacoma front ends is extremely tight, the 1/4" spacer could be allowing the ball joint to over extend. 1/4" at the shock is 1/2" more travel at the wheel, which is a lot.
