Maybe you need to step up to a 650lb spring, assuming your running the stock 600lbs. That should get you the height you want with less preload on the coils. And you could remove the 1/4 spacers.

Hmmm so if I wanted to do 2.5” instead of 2”, I should get the 650lb springs and that should take care not to have noises and give the shock room to perform better offroad also at the 2.5”?

Well if toytec is correct then the 3rd gens cone factory with 717lb springs. So using foxes 600lb springs you have to preload the coil a lot to achieve more lift. Stepping up to a 650lb would allow lift at less preload and hopefully a better ride. I can’t speak for any noises because the OP hasn’t figured out what is making the noise. It may have nothing to do with the coilovers.

Ok ordering the 650lb now...I’ll take the time to have them coated Inferno:).

Before you do, @*TRD* maybe you can tell him if 13” or 14” 650lb springs would be better.

Not sure if it has been answer but I had the same noise with mine and just found out that my sway bar hits my fox 2.5 coil overs. I will be installing a sway bar relocating kit tomorrow to drop the sway bar and push it away from the coil over.

Thanks for the suggestion, set up comes with relocation and there is lots of clearance.

With fox being no help at all; one response than ignored. I think I am going to dump them and just give king a try. Sucks to lose money but they sound like shit and the noises made take away from the ride quality for me.

I put my stock struts with spacer back in and everything is silent.

So it seems you work for an off-road shop of sorts. If so can you get hold of Kings and tune them for me? As you took the time to help I figure I’ll offer you the business. Please PM if you can accommodate.

Sounds like a spring problem. Too much preload. It's not a damping problem as some have tried to sell you on.

One thing to clear up from this thread; too many people confuse springs and damping. They're separate and do different things.

Simple example (and not absolutely true but y'all get the idea) is a 600 lbs spring set with 0 preload will move at 600 lbs.. you crank it up to the sky just because you want a lift that says Fox on it you increase the preload in the spring and make it harder for the spring to move. If you add 200 lbs of preload you're over stock @ 800 lbs. That means before you even get into the stroke you'll have to have more force to begin moving the coil. NOT DAMPING.

So when the OP said he was getting a thunk, i believe it's from him putting too much preload on a "soft" spring. That would also explain why it goes away at higher speeds and rides like crap.

I'd recommend doing research before throwing money at things. IMO.

Couldn’t agree more, done research and would agree with you. I believe you are correct that many are seeking an excessive lift from a fancy brand.I have these set to what feel is an acceptable level? I cranked them up roughly 7 threads. Close to an inch. Currently I can’t go any lower with my tires and wheels to test the theory of going lower. Could be that as others have mentioned, the fox setup doesn’t fair well bing cranked on. Unfortunately I don’t fall under the more money than sense category so it will be pretty painful if I have to suck up as a loss.

Thanks again for the info I may try some other things and will report back if I fix it.

He works for accutune and knows his shit. They do custom valving/tuning, so they can definitely help you out. But are you sure you want to abandon ship without at least trying some other options? Maybe you could use some other spacers to move the lower mount away from the lip that’s grinding.

Just to feed you further info and cause more confusion..
I have my fox 2.5 extended coilovers cranked up way high. Sitting at 23.5" hub to fender. Truck rides perfect..zero noises.
Check your steering rack. Mine was not tightened enough from the factory and made noises over bumps and while turning the wheel parking. While getting my alignment, the tech tightened it up and zero noises since then.

I checked my rack was super tight, over 130 ft pounds. But I did find the the front diff mounts were loose about a 1/8 of a turn. I torqued them and the truck doesn’t make the thunking sound any more.
