For those of you with the whine, what have you done about it, if anything at all?

A Toyota dealer was nice enough to replace my rear springs with an updated version along with the cab mounts, and that decreased the whining by more than half, so I’m happy with it.

I added ‘Boom Mat’ and additional insulation to the floor and rear cab wall along with placing a length of pipe insulation outside between the bottom of the cab and bed. It has stayed in place for two years.
The whining noise is still there although it is faint with the rear seat up and slightly more pronounced with the rear seat down.

I’ve thought about placing additional insulation behind the rear tray/cover at the cab wall.
Some people use sponge or foam over the cab wall vents to allow for air flow and possible noise reduction.

Cheap workout mats(about $12.00) that are thick, soft lighter weight rubber might provide for a slight reduction of noise if glued to or placed at the back of the rear cover.

How do you know if it's the rear diff or not? Is there any tell-tale sign that points in that direction?

Also, was yours rhythmic? Like a slow-ish "whomp, whomp, whomp" kind of sound?

I only have the noise occasionally. Seems to be after a longer drive. Does that make any sense? Could it be that the harmonic doesn’t occur unless the diff/ diff oil is at full operating temp?

Not sure, but possibly. I think I started noticing the noise after I installed my DAKAR HDs.

What’s the poll for just what you drive?

    Yup.

TSB for the rear diff howl is only for off-road and pro models with certain configurations. Just trying to see how many other trims are displaying symptoms as well.

Edit. Obviously I would like people with the howl to be doing the poll and not just everyone in general...which is what I think people are doing. Haha

My 2016 Off Road had Diff whine around 55mph. I quietened down a bit when I changed the fluid.I put almost 100k miles on it no problems. My 2019 Has the same whine at the same speed.

Appreciate the input. Did you notice yours being worse on down hills when barely on the pedal or while turning in similar situations?

Both of mine was steady from around 55 to 60. You can feather the throttle and increase/decrease the whine.

What oil did you use that decreased the whine?

I think it was Lucus. By the time I sold it I could barely hear it. But it certainly wasn't quite as pronounced after the fluid change.

I had a 2016 O/R that had the diff howl around 55ish and it wasn't to bad or loud. I just got rid if that for a 2019 O/R and the diff howl is WAY louder at around 55 , especially bad letting off the gas and then getting back on it again in the 2019. The 19 has the same hood separation /hood vibration issue, same kazoo sound from the shitty window seals. Pretty much only difference is the software for the transmission in the 19 is much improved over the 16 I had. Other then that it looks like they didnt update ornchange shit.

Did you just live with the noise on the 16?

Yeah, I didnt want the stealership to screw with it and then it's the same or worse. I'm doing the same with the 19. I hate to say it but its completely normal for these Off Roads. You'll be fine , save your time .
