Thanks. The Nokians and the Yokohama Geolandars in E rated are what I’ve narrowed it down too. The E rated geolandars look totally different than the sl’s. Weight is comparable also. Leaning towards Yokohama as I’ve never had an issue with any of their tires on any other vehicle. Trying to get info on the Nokians before I decide.

    Alright. Turning into a saga.

Looking at the website, there is no contact info other than the hello@nokian email address. For the fun of it, I clicked on the FB link, and there, they list a contact number. Chatting with the person there, they feel that Amazon, while an unauthorized dealer, could have tried harder and initiated a claim. Nokian asked for the relevant info and are looking into it.

It seemed to get rolling when I said that I was merely looking for warranty support, not a refund, which was all that I was asking of Amazon / Budget Center.

    :fingerscrossed:

Well I got my Outposts mounted up this morning. They look pretty good, being only the stock 245/75 16 size. Decided to stick to stock to retain performance and mileage with the l’il 4 banger engine…..

Pictures aren’t the best but here you go…

Well that’s good. I have had much better luck talking on the phone with Amazon customer support about getting my money back rather than emailing/texting. Their text support is crap

I was on the phone with Amazon and was feeling hopeful. It was later that they shut the door. Nokian agreed that they could have simply helped by submitting a claim.

That said, I have had mostly excellent help with chat CS around the web.

Agreed, I have the “old” version and I can’t tell a difference.

Quick update. I cross rotated the tires about 500mi early to have a close look all all of them. Only that one spot has the issue.

Also, it does look like Nokian will be getting a tire out to me. They are asking for the damaged one back for examination, which I am more than happy to help with.

Sorry, but not in my experience. Hahaha!

I had a Ural sidecar that took a lot of work to make 20,000mi. Like rebuilds.

Took the plunge and ordered the LT275/70/17 from simpletire. Stacked it with two $50 off $275 Amex offers and it ended up being ~$170 a tire shipped to my local fedex.

Final update, for now. Nokian delivered a new tyre for me today. Same version / same Made in Russia. I'll edit this later with the date code.

Since FedEx was awesome enough to leave it laying in my driveway, I went home to grab it. DiscountTire was able to fit me in, and the old tire is on the way back to Nokian.

I did ask if they could update me if anything interesting is found, although I am not sure that there is much to learn? Maybe if they dissect it, something microscopic might be there? But, that is likely too CSI for this situation.

Like I noted before with this experience, no more purchases like this from Amazon. DT did well, and other local folks have noted the same, so it might be time to give them another chance.

    Edit: Date Code 1722. Yikes!

Thanks for the update. I’m down to two weeks before my pilgrimage from VA to Wy and Mt. I have these and Yokohama geolandars in 235/85/16 on the burner to pick up in Cheyenne when I get there. Good to know Nokian is all over it as well. The discount tire in Cheyenne has a 4.9 rating with over 600 reviews so I feel comfortable letting them do what I need.
    Thanks again for the update.

    You're welcome!

I did ask the Nokian folks about TireRack, who we have also used in the past. They said that they are an authorized outlet and would have no issues getting warranty support. With DT and TireRack being merged up, I would assume that they are both recognized.

The Geolandars were my runner up when I got the Wildpeaks before these. I know folks that have them (G051 AT with SL sidewalls) and are very happy with them.

Other than this issue, I've come to terms with my earlier thoughts about them breaking traction under wet acceleration. Braking and cornering are on par in all conditions. They offroad / air down well, and the tread life seems spectacular.

I’ve decided on the LT in either one. The LT geolandars are built differently than the sl not only in materials but also tread. Same with the outposts. Im going to be on rock and gravel roads and off-road completely for 3 months so I decided on a sturdier tire to be safe.

Yeah. LTs are like that. I keep waffling on them, mainly over the weight. I had heavy motorcycle tires in the past, so I kinda have some feel for them.

I've had really good luck with SLs, but if you're going to be doing that much offroad, LTs do seem to make sense.

Sorry that I forgot, but yikes. Date Code: 1722. :(

Pretty surprising. Pour one out for Ukraine.
