Non Entune touch screen stereos

Can anyone school me on these? We traded the wife's car for a 2015 Sienna with a 7 inch touchscreen non Entune stereo with Bluetooth. Was my understanding that it would read texts to us while driving but cant figure anything out. The message widget is on the screen but says set up when touched. Try to go thru the set up and it says we may have to operate the phone for the set up to take place but nothing happens.

I'm going to go back to the dealer but they are the ones that didn't seem to know that much about it so I thought I'd ask on here and not sure if other Toyota's have the same unit or at least the same software that someone on here could help that has experience with a similar unit?

Also was told that the first phone paired would be the default phone each time at start up so I paired mine even though I won't drive it that often, but it isn't defaulting back to her phone. Just stays on the last one that was used and have to go into the menu to switch it back.
