I still don't get it. I was blasting some classical this morning and it sounded fantastic.

Maybe they put JBL speakers in mine by mistake. :notsure:

Seriously, I don't see any faults with my system..... The only way I think I'd bother changing it is if someone comes out with a system that basically clones my phone's display.

Called Sparks Toyota Dealership in Myrtle Beach SC to see how much the install would be. Their price just for the install is $625.00. :quickdraw: To rich for my blood. Maybe I'll try the install myself.
If I do I'll post the results.

Is that for the OEM Audio Plus system or something else? Just wondering. Most audio shops around here are somewhere in the ballpark of 60-70/hr and expect to take a couple hours. I was quoted 3 hours at 65/hr at one in town where I'm at, and that would still be a bit under $200 to have it put in.

I'm sure I could do it myself, but I'd hate to bust a clip or something on a brand new truck. Not that I have cash to burn, but I want it done right and if possible this could be a 10 year truck for me so I had might as well enjoy it as long as possible :)

Labor for the install of the OEM Audio System!! Not counting the 1500.00 for the system.

I couldn't give up the driver side storage with OEM setup so I fabricated a box for passenger side and put in JL CX series speakers in all the doors with a 5 channel amp, much better at a lower cost (if your time isn't a factor)

Don't worry about breaking a panel clip, it's going to happen. You can pick up a bag of them at your dealership for a few bucks.

    FYI,
Spoke to OEM Audio Plus this afternoon. Very nice and professional. I'm probably going to order this set-up. I could not contain myself and had to mention the $625.00 installation price Sparkes Toyota quoted.
We agreed this was rather high. Am going to look around my area for a installer. Some local stereo shops here.

How does it sound awful? Is it flat, distorted, or something else? There are many things you can do. First check EQ settings and what you are feeding into it. If you are using some 128bit ripped songs from torrents they will sound awful. Music doesn't process well off an Iphone at a low quality bit rate. Next, if you have the JBL, you can replace speakers quite inexpensively if you wanted to. If road noise is an issue, you can apply some sound deadening materials and Ensolite foam. Or replace amps and speakers. I built a very good system for my truck based on what I like to hear. I have music ripped from CDs at FLAC/Apple Lossless and they sound amazing. Just depends on what you are looking for.

I did a pretty comprehensive sound system on my truck a few months ago. I learned a lot about what to do/not do. If you have any questions just hit me up.

Wait until you take those speakers out and look at the magnets...it will all make sense then!

Hobbs, If you're the type of guy who's always put your own system in your vehicle you'll think it sucks. If you've always just used the standard system that came with the vehicle then you'll probably think the non-jbl is ok.
