Your profile is bare. No one knows what old Toyota system you are asking about.

Toyota started the switch in 1995. My old 95 t100 5vz had the obd port under the steering column. Plugged a obd2 scanner and communicate no issue.

All Tacomas in the US are OBDII compliant, the port is under the dash on the driver's side.

The port under the hood is a Toyota specific port leftover from non OBDII, it gives access to testing certain circuits like the fuel pump and O2 sensors.

Do note that some cheaper scan tools and OBDII code readers only support the CAN communication protocol and don't work well if at all with older communication protocols.

Bluedriver works for me ~$100 ish. If all you want is to look at things it should be good enough.

I just rememberd... look at the underhood emmisions lable sticker and see what it says, OBDI or OBDII. Your truck is a transition year truck.

Have you looked for an OBD I? They are all over Cramazon and Fleabay.

I’ve run a couple of cans of sea foam through the fuel system and it continues to get better running the more I drive it
