I got the TRD Sport only because that was pretty much all they had available in my area. The remaining stock was either a double cab or 2WD. I wanted a 4WD access cab. Shopped around all over but they go fast. Ended up just getting the TRD Sport. If anything, it only increases resale value when and if you want to trade in.

IMO, the TRD packages are a bit overhyped in terms of what you really get but there are a couple nice features on them. Is it a must-have package? Unless you want the rear locker and are going for the OffRoad package, I would say probably not. I don't offroad(most I do is back mountain roads and switchbacks) The Sport has the 17 inch wheels and shocks but most of the items that distinguish a TRD Sport from a SR5 is mostly cosmetic. TRD OffRoad offers the more functional upgrade.

I know this might sounds odd for some of you, but I currently have an 06 TRD sport and might be getting a 2010 DCSB with SR5 4x4 V6 and the wheel upgrade like the wheels on theTRD OR. I don't mind losing some of the features and not having all the features a TRD OR would have. If it fits my needs, it's good enough for me. It's the cheaper route too. Looking at a truck with only 30k miles for $23k.

At least you'll get a few new features on the '10. I traded my 07 AC OR for 11 DC and now got VSC TRAC ALSD airbags-side, satellite, better radio, steering wheel controls. Don't miss the e-locker. I rarely go offroad, do you? 4x4 & ALSD will be more than sufficient. Glad I did it! Good luck on your decision.

First was a 2011 Sport Access Cab, traded it for a 2012 SR5 DCSB. Needed the interior room more than I needed a fake scoop/skewp.

My first Tacoma was a 1997 Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab with the 2.7 4 cylinder. No frills 4x4 truck. Absolutely loved it. She was my baby. Was forced to get rid of her against my will thanks to the lying pieces of garbage at Toyota of El Cajon.

I now have a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab TRD Off Road Package. Also a great truck that I love dearly. But both trucks each had certain things I like more. On my 97' I loved the manual locking hubs and wished my 07' had them. I also had a manual transfer case on my 97' and wish my 07' had that as well. However, I love everything else about my 07'. Especially the rear locker. It's not that I sue it much but it is nice to have if or when it is ever needed.

Can you explain please? How can a dealership make you get rid of your truck against your will?

I have a 2012 SR5 Double Cab 4x4 with the tow package and it came very nicely equipped. I don't need to off road extras. My payment is already $80 more than my last truck and my wife needs a new car too. The only thing that I wish mine had was better wheels and tires.

On a side note, if I had a TRD sticker on my truck, I would probably try to figure out the best way to remove it. Never been a fan of big stickers or any kind of graphics on my ride.

My 85 4wd LB pickup (and I still have it at 310,000 miles) didnt have the option:D and my 98 wasnt TRD. I dont think many Tacomas were made with the TRD in those first few years. My 98 Extended Cab 4WD Limited was more than capable and only a couple of times did I wish for a locker.

My 08 is TRD O/R ACLB. I am glad to have the TRD this time. I use to laugh when I saw the TRD logo, thinking it was more of a "look at my brand name expensive clothes" type thing, but now i realize those extras are worth it for someone like me who is always exploring the two tracks everywhere I go.

Yes I can. When I got my truck in May of 97', I stupidly leased it because the salesman lied to me on how leases worked. At the time I was putting anywhere from 50 to 60k a year on my vehicles and let him know up front. My issue was on a lease you could only put 12k a year on. It was a 4 year lease and as a result, my mileage could not go over 48k total. I did that in my first 6 to 9 months. The salesman told me that the mileage did not matter because I was going to buy the truck at the end of the lease and the residual would automatically turn into a finance deal. At least this is what he told me and showed me terms that convinced me he was telling me the truth. If I had financed the truck, my payments would have been slightly higher. I could have done them but was kind of uncomfortable at the time with a payment that high so I leased basically under false info given to me that the lease would automatically turn int a finance deal at the end if I chose to go that route, which was always my plan.

Fast forward to the end of the lease 4 years later and 218,000 miles on my truck. Toyota would not due the deal even though I had never missed a payment or been late. If I tried to trade in the truck, they also wanted 7k down.

Toyota of El Cajon did nothing to help me even after I talked to the owner and told him what his salesman had told me. As a result, when the lease ended, I was forced to turn the truck in an walk away from it even though I wanted to purchase it. When I leased the truck I was 23 years old and simply did not have the knowledge I have now. I remember the salesman showing me the lease paperwork and showing me where the option was mine to finance. I even remember asking about if that was the case even if the truck has high miles and he said yes. He also pointed out that a lot of businesses lease that way and then they finance the residual on their trucks at the end if they have gone over the miles allowed or they like the vehicle.

I stupidly believed him and it bit me in the butt. Never again though will I ever lease and certainly will I ever again buy from Toyota of El Cajon or the salesman if I ever come across him. I know he no longer works there but I will never forget his name either. He is a total douche bag in my opinion!

That truck had a lot of wonderful memories attached to it too. I met my wife in that truck. We met online not trying to hook up but became friends that had it develop into something more. On the way out to San Diego, she got stranded in Socorro, New Mexico so I had to go get her. Then a few months later in April, 1 year to the day we met online, we married in my truck at the Drive Thru wedding chapel in Las Vegas. There are also tons of off roading memories and traveling memories in that truck.

That is why I also have its VIN number and description in my signature. I have no way of knowing how to track the truck down but the slim chance someone does have it and is a member on here or some other Toyota site, my goal would be to try and buy it back and restore it no matter what kind of condition it now currently is in. When I had it, yes I got rid of it with 218,000 miles on it but that truck still looked brand new with the exception of a slight little tear in the headliner. That truck was babied by me in how I took care of it.

Anyway, that's what had happened. I know, I was an idiot for leasing.:(

Not saying you were an idiot for leasing :(...but the dealership was an idiot for not letting you buy it at the end of the lease. Who the heck, but you, would shell out big money for a Taco with 218K miles on it? Any idea what ended up happening to it after you left it on the lot (I know you have no idea where it is now).

I think they sent it to the auction because it never hit their lot.

My residual on the truck was 12k. I didn't have a problem with it because the engine and tranny had no problems ever. No leaks, still shiny because I power washed them every time I washed the truck. I changed the oil every 2k with synthetic and had synthetics running in the front and rear diff, tranny and transfer case too that I changed every 30k. Like I said, the truck was babied even though it had high miles.

I wonder if carfax would tell where it was last registered? I tried once but the guy had info on there that wasn't accurate.
