I've had my Tacoma (double cab, short bed) for about a week now and love it. During that time I've been gorging myself on the wealth of knowledge and all the truck porn on here. I can't handle it, I need to order parts and if you all would be so kind to tell me if I'm going in the right direction I would be very grateful.

My goal is 3" lift close to level, 285/75/16 BFG KO2s on either XD Addicts (16x9, -12offset and 4.53 bs) or Method NVs (16x8, 0 offset and 4.5 bs) the lift I'm leaning towards is the Coil/Blistein 5100 Kit (HS05BK-1) from Headstrong. http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p227/Coil/Blistein_5100_Kit_(HS05BK-1).html
Will this kit do what I'm looking to accomplish? Any suggestions about coil options and the rear AAL would be greatly appreciated.
    Oh yeah, the truck:

Ya, that color looks really good, congrats on the truck!

Did I make a mistake?? Was struggling with this color and the MGM I ended with.

That lift isn't going to help when catching mad air in the desert and those tires aren't going to help in 3 foot of mud... Get a real lift and tires...

Joking, sounds like a solid set up should look great! Might want to look into UCAs if you want a full 3in of lift

Pittrider, thank you. It's gonna take a little extra work keeping it clean though.

Josh, catching mad air and mud pits are out of my playbook. More like hard pack, gravel and mountain roads thrown into too much pavement. Would a top plate spacer give me the extra height? UCAs will force me to eat beans and rice for the next month.

Anything over 2.5" is usually UCA territory, you need them in order to get the alignment right, no matter if you use just the 5100s or add a top plate spacer..

Hey, keeping that thing washed up is truly a matter of pride. Keeping it clean will be top priority because you'll be wanting everybody to notice it, and they will because that truck is a killer look, nice choice OP! Be proud of that sucker, looks awesome in my books, and everyone you pull up next too will be thinking the same. :D

3" lift from stock is asking for trouble especially on 4x4.
Here is what I would recommend.
5100 set on 0 and 887 coils apox. 2.25 lift
    Rear 1.5-2 deaver AAL
Alignment shold be ok but far from ideal, when you get extra cash get your self SPC adjustable ucas and have shop max your castor setting on lower arm and correct caster on New ucas at 2.5 degree.
Wheel are personal preference. I do like Methods NV better and cleaner looking wheel. Also 0 offset would be close to flush with the fender witch looks great IMO, mine are -12 and stick out about 1/2"

Excuse my ignorance when I ask, why or what troubles could crop up lifting the truck 3"? Is it specific to my selection of lift, the Tacoma or 4x4s in general? Also you suggest that the AAL would work but not ideal, would ideal be new leaf packs?

Unfortunately like most I don't get offroad not nearly enough and certainly not like I used to. When I do I'll use the capabilities of the truck but not abuse it. I don't mind spending the extra money to have everything correct but for my use I can't justify spending a ton on components. BTW I like your truck, what tires are on it?

Being that I own an early second gen, I don't know much about 3rd gens. But if it's off roading capabilities you're looking for, some off road tires that are slightly larger and wider would help

Looks like a decent setup. Go Method over the XD's for sure. As others have said, bite the bullet on UCA's now.

I went the same way even though BBP was a close second to the MGM. I still love my MGM but having seen some of the blue in the wild I will say it is one sharp looking color. Waxed up and shiny it would be hard to beat if I had to make the same choice again.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
If you don't wheel much and are just looking for the visuals you're gonna ask for headaches galore... Stick to stock if you light wheel, get a set of real AT tires like BFG KO2s but stay 265/75R16 (or whatever is stock for you).

If I understand it correctly the 3rd gens sit an inch higher than the 2nd gens so you cannot lift 3 inches. On the 2nd gens you had to replace the upper control arm for a uniball like a light racing tube arm or similar to comfortably get a 3" lift and to get alignment in spec.

If you want 3" lift you need to get the UCA. As far as the rear get the icon aal and the reason I chose them was bc the new leafs although they work and are awesome they were made for for the 05-15 models. I heard there was a small difference in load rating between them
But trust me the aal work great and paired with a good shock it feels much smoother. And Method NV's look great!

Beans and rice ordered up, UCAs in.

I here ya. While visuals are a bonus function comes first. The KO2s have been on my list and would suit me fine for where I go. My main thoughts behind going 3" is not having rub with the 285/75/16 or do any trimming which some here have had success with.
    The NVs do look good.

You won't be able to get away without trimming. I promise. In fact you'll have to cut metal to get them to work properly. I had to cab mount chop and carve up the inside of my front wheel wells to get them to stop rubbing and while stuffed hard they still try to eat plastic.
