Noob question: Gen 3 JBL Premium Tweeter Upgrade?

I am sure this question has been asked, but I have confused myself into oblivion. Sorry if this is redundant

Basically, are there aftermarket tweeters that I can install into my Gen 3 (JBL premium)?

I am fine if I need to do some minor trimming of the dash. I upgraded the door speakers based on the recommendation here, but I haven’t found much on the tweeter upgrade other than the Subaru tweeters that are not supposed to be for the JBL premium.

What exactly is your complaint about the JBL "tweeter" that you are trying to improve?

Typical replacement for this would be an actual HF speaker, but my understanding is that the JBL system places some of the vocal range (fundamental tones start as low as 100Hz for men) in the dash as well. I don't know what the crossover point is, but it's going to be much lower than what you'll be able to find easily. Most aftermarket tweeters are meant to be crossed over at 3000Hz or above.

This means you'll need something that's able to play down to at least 250Hz in order for it to not suck/fail due to the JBL system crossover settings.

 

You could throw in something like the JBL club 3020 and it would work

that’s about the only thing I can think of. And even then, you might not be super happy with it.
It will fit in the spot and it will play down to 90hz
But it’s 3ohm vs the factory 2ohm. I know the amp can handle a 3ohm speaker, but you’ll lose some power output from the amp.
This speaker also only has 86.5db sensitivity. I’m not sure what the factory speaker is, but if this is lower, you’ll lose some volume there too.

 

Thanks for the info! I didn’t really have any complaints and just wanted some “crisper” highs. I was thinking that I could just replace the dash speakers with good quality tweeters, but it looks like this may not be a good idea based on the data sheet.
