My towing experience is limited to moving light towers and message boards around a construction site, so I came to double check my setup and idea.

Truck: Tacoma SR V6 4x4 with tow package
Mods: 265/70/17 AT tires (was 245/75/16 from factory)
    GVWR: 5600#
    Towing Capacity: 6800#
    Hitch MGTW rating: 6000#
    Hitch touge weight carrying: 600#

    Trailer: two-axle Uhaul Auto Transport
    Trailer weight (empty): 2210#
    Trailer max load: 5290#
    Trailer max gross: 7500#

    Cargo: 2010 Volkswagen Beetle
    Cargo weight: ~3400# (most conservative)

Trip: CT to MD, 280 miles via NJ turnpike and I-95

So combined cargo and trailer weight is conservatively 5610# which is decently below my capacity of 6800#. Also well below the max rating of the trailer. Vehicle GVWR is also above 80% of trailer gross.

Just need a gut check/advice on if I'm good or this is one of those 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should' scenarios. Thanks

The data you cite suggests you are within the limits of your towing capabilities. Keep calm and tow on.

your mileage will take a pretty big hit but other than that you'll be fine.

You are within tow capacity but that’s a lot of weight for a Taco. Since it’s a 1 time trip go ahead and make the tow. Go slow, stay below the speed limit on the highway. Keep an extra long length between you and the vehicle in front of you. It will not be an easy or pleasant tow but you can do it. Good luck.

I pull 5,100 all the time. Get a WDH and take your time. Drove 400 miles one way to Bend OR from Spokane, WA. Don't be stupid about it. When you get there you get there.

Just take your time. I towed a 94 accord (~2700) on a uhaul transport. If you get up to highway speeds the trucks definitely seem more comfortable at 60. I only went 10 miles probably most being highway. Just take your time and be smart.

does the trailer have surge brakes? Whatever brake system it has be sure it works before you start your tow.

if you drive conservatively, about 10 mpg. I tow a 18' travel trailer, single axle, 3,500# and can get 13. The TT is lighter than your load, but with more frontal area, thus more wind resistance....be happynwith anything over 10.
