    hey guys, noob here...
i have a few questions for my new to me 98 tacoma that i bought off an old lady that had it sitting for about 6 months after her husband passed away.

it's a 2wd single cab manual trans, with no paperwork / manual book... or anything, other than the registration.
how can i tell what motor i have (2.4 or 2.7)?
    rear end? gear ratio?

and what do you guys recommend for the manual trans fluid? i'd like to change it out this weekend. would you guys recommend synthetic trans fluid? what are good brands? i don't know if it's been changed or not, but the truck is in good driving condition with 185k miles on it.
oh, and what kinda rear gear oil should i use?

    thanks in advance! Ray

don't touch it, don't even replace a light bulb until you have a title in your name for it.

the children of this woman can show up any time they want to and take the truck away from you until you have a title for it.

the sticker on the door frame tells you the engine and gearing as well as other things

Thanks keakar, the title is in my name... so no worries there.
The sticker on the door doesn't tell me about the engine or gears and there isn't much underneath the hood to tell me what I have.
I guess I'll have to check online with my vin# or call Toyota.

So what's recommended for the manual trans fluid? and synthetic or not? rear gear oil?
    Thanks!

Thanks guys! That's just what I need.
For the tranny, I guess I'll go with Redline MT, and I'll read up for the rear.
