I am gonna pull the trigger on my first tacoma in December. I will be getting a DCLB MGM 4WD Sport / Sport Upgrade (chrome cap removed) and I would like some advice on mods. I have not owned a vehicle for 10+ years, because I have had a company car. Now I get the option to drive my own and I am going to get my dream auto from my teen years - Toyota 4WD.

I have been perusing the forum for a while to get prepared for what I want / need to do once I get the truck. Please correct or recommend additions to the list. I love the "tough truck" look but can't get too crazy with mods because this will be my daily driver of 32K miles a year and off-roading will be virtually non-existent. I will be hauling kayaks, mountain bikes, and landscaping stuff but thats about it.

    For sure:

    > Full Detail: Wash, Clay Bar, Wash, Paint Sealant - Day one
    > Nerf bar: N-Fab or Go Rhino Dominator (still undecided on color)
    > Bull / grill bar (avid light bar or bull bar undecided as is color)
    > AFE Pro Dry Filter
    > Spare tire security cable / lock
    > Tailgate lock
    > Window tint
    > Scan gauge
    > Locking gas cap
    > Weathertech floor liner system (when available)
    > Satoshi grill w/ behind grill lights (once available)
    > Lift kit - Bilstein 5100 - Toyotec kit with leafs etc. Don't want a big lift (1.5-2" ???) just want for aesthetics.
    > Gonna keep stock wheels / tires till the tires get worn out. Will upgrade tires / wheels then but gonna be sensible because mpg.

Additional suggestions from you gurus would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to TW
Congrats on the new truck, it seems like you already know what you want to do with it and it looks like it's gonna be one helluva truck :)

Agreed. For a noob, you seem to have things pretty dialed in.

Just to address one of your mods, a member of this forum, HomerTaco, makes custom order Satoshi grilles here.

You're a welcome change, a newb that figured out what they want rather than asking what they should do to their truck without telling us what they want the truck to be capable of and/or look like. Enjoy your Taco!

Another couple of suggestions; put cabinet locks on the storage bin covers in the bed, and a bedmat.

    Nice list you got there...

Add the Black Headlight Mod, someone already did it on the 2012 and a bed mat.
The Satoshi's are custom so get to it! Someone's gotta be first for the 2012 model!
Say no to the truck tobaggin (bull bar), go for the Avid

2012 DCLB come with 4 leafs standard - doesn't that eliminate the TSB need?

Pugga, I not gonna do a bull bar. I am even contemplating the avid bar now too. I think I just gonna do satoshi with two lights behind grill. I think a bar would detract from that look. Thoughts?

    Check Build Thread!!
If you already have a 4-pack leaf, then yes there is no need for the TSB

Add more D rings in the bed, they really come in handy.

I bought mine from my dealer for $25, then used my existing bed bolts. you just have to grind down the washer on the bed bolt to fit.
