That's pretty much what I thought but no. It's the banks vehicle until it's paid off, by any means. Then it is yours, free and clear. Insuring the driver and then keeping the vehicle would be one hell of a racket though. I don't recall but I don't think the ins company is even mentioned on the title. I just sold a car and cant can't remember lol.

so insurance will offer you what they think is fare value of the car or truck if its totaled they salvage it. it goes out to bid to the recyclers. you have the option to keep it for that amount less of the total settlement amount. if you owe the bank for it its a different game, but if you get 30k for it less your deductible less your buy back lets say you owe 20k to the bank you will only get a check for 5k and keep your truck. that will not fund a project as big you think. these are just hypothetical numbers. but you get the idea.
in my case truck was bought with cash, and I must replace it with a DD also with cash, cause the banks ant getten my money no more. I wish mine was worth 30k. would make truck shopping a lot easier.

I've always thought if I were to get a long travel truck it'd be a Tundra. That would be amazing.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

That makes sense. The mustang was owned out right. No banks involved. Which is why we bought it back, for a whopping $75. Never heard of people keeping their car when total it without having to pay salvage. Idk.

Right. We are just pulling parts off of it. I was confused how he got the insurance pay out, but got to keep the car without buying it back.

Well I guess how the bank got the insurance payout and he got to keep the truck(s). I didn't know that was possible?

Gotcha. I'm still a little slow with meds and recovery from the accident.

Did you just admit you're SAS'n the truck?! Jealous! I'm tempted to do the same I got quote 9.2k just to do a 4x4 swap from RST. Surely I can find a shop in Sac to SAS is for around that price. Have you picked out a shop?

So if your rig has lots of mods on it, does that mean the recyclers will say it worth more, hence cost more to buy back?

If you end up deciding to SAS the truck, look at talking the truck to Don at FC Fabrication. His screen name is on Pirate4x4 is FC187. Total artisan when it comes fabrication and he knows his shit. He'll make sure you get exactly what you want and then some. His rates are extremely respectable for the work he does. I don't know what his wait time is right now so you'd have to ask him.

Is this implying a shop isn't needed? Confused.

I said I 'could' find a shop to do mine, since my HOA won't let me do the work in my driveway and moreso I had asked if he had found a shop.. which is a question cause I know he's not a welder by trade... Not sure where the implying came from  lol
