What kind of camping, how far you want to drive, what are you bringing? The reason I ask because people have a varying opinions on what is and is not acceptable with regard to amenities at camp sites. :)

Pretty much a tent with sleeping bags, some wood, maybe a grill, ice chest etc, no camper or anything. Fishing pole too if we get near a lake. Maybe the bikes too. As far as how far. Maybe like an hour or so from Rocklin. Somewhere where there's redwoods. Last time we went camping around here by pine flat, recommended by a co worker, it was still a lower elevation so it was pretty much oaks and grass all around, the wife wasn't too happy. It was alright but we both have memories of camping where there's usually redwoods/sequoias.

Not sure of redwoods in Tahoe NF, but lots of other conifers (pine, spruce, and cedar).
Here's a link to the Tahoe NF that lists and maps campsites:

    http://www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/tahoe/recreation

Take your pick. Some may require reservations on the weekends.

Maybe Shaver Lake? Nice camping up there.

The Redwoods are either going to be south in Yosemite or Sequoia & Kings Canyon, north in Redwoods National Park (near Eureka), Muir Woods (near Marin), or maybe Big Basin State Park (near Woodside, CA).

The nearest Sequoia (Sierra Redwood...not the coastal redwood) grove with camping is Big Trees state park. Located on Hwy 4. About 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Rocklin. Nice campgrounds with showers there. However no lake.

If you just want to get out of the heat and camp/fish, I would recommend Independence Lake or Jackson Valley Reservoir. Both are located off of Hwy 89 a bit northwest of Truckee. Both are beautiful and between 6000' - 7000' for cool evenings. This time of year, campfires are restricted to developed areas only.
