You need an HSC for a handgun. Your FSC will only cover rifles and shotguns now... But if you have a valid hunting license you don't need either for rifles, shotguns, or handguns.

 

I thought FSC is all you need now?

 

Damn... If I didn't already have 2 of these things, I'd be going down to do the paperwork.

Oh wait... ya, you're right.

At first you needed a HSC for hand guns only. Then they made the FSC for all firearms and the HSC would not work on rifles. You're right. I had it backwards.

For $229.00 I did it just for a decent "Goin' Fishing" pistol.

 

When I had my CCP, this was my fishing gun and I loved it. Great pistol all the way around like others have mentioned.

 

The good thing is that even without a CCW you can legally carry concealed while actively fishing, camping or hunting.

 

I didn't know fish were so dangerous.

 

You obviously have never been fishing around the bay.

 

So a Watershed Keeper I work with (he works in the woods all day) told me a story about a guy who killed a bear while fishing. Apparently he was fishing and heard a loud noise headed his direction so he pulled out his pistol and sure enough a bear burst out of the brush headed straight for him. Guy starts shooting at the bear, bear turns around and starts back the way he came. Guy kept shooting.

The guy tracks down the now dead bear and bags him (the guy apparently has bear tags). When the guy guts and skins said bear he finds a conglomeration of two bullets in the bear, one coming from the front and one from the back.

The watershed keeper who told me this story saw the dead bear and I believe he heard this story...

the guy who told the story, unsure.

Crazy regardless.

 

When you fish many NorCal rivers (Klamath, Smith, Trinity) you can be 30-50 miles from any assistance. It can be pretty remote and I am grateful that in 35+ years I have never had any need to unholster my pistol. I have never been sorry that I carried the extra 1-2 pounds on my hip.
