I thought 4.7 was what we wanted for the best combo of possible ratios since we already have a low range of 2.57.
That would give us (got this from Marlin's website):
High Range (1.00:1) ← TacoBox in High, T/Case in High
Factory Low Range (2.57:1) ← TacoBox in High, T/Case in Low
TacoBox Single Low (4.70:1) ← TacoBox in Low, T/Case in High
TacoBox Dual Low (12.08:1) ← TacoBox in Low, T/Case in Low

Those numbers are fine if you have a manual. With an auto the torque converter roughly doubles the gear ratio when crawling. That's why I just stuck to 2.28 in the crawlbox. I've got a lot of wheeling miles on my rig and I never once wished it was slower.

We already have a 2.57 ratio which is close to the 2.28.
Why not get the 4.7 for a wider range of options/ratios.

I explained why. Everyone here can do what they choose. I chose what I did for the reasons I already explained.

Looks like I’m going with 4.7, that’s what the built taco creeper comes with. Slower cant be worse?

Nope. Just be aware using the 4.7's in the crawlbox put more stress on the stock case input shaft. There's been debate for years about that being more likely to cause failures but I've never seen any real proof.

Mt Humphreys looks like a good one.
I've been working on climbing all the CA 14ers. I've only done 6 so far.

I was going to knock out of the rest of them in 2018 but got injured. I was in fantastic shape too. I've been working to get back into that fitness ever since but can't get the momentum going.

Only way I have found that works for me is to just do it every weekend. Start with small backpacking trips and then move up. 2018 was my last active year too. I’m not even closing to peak bagging shape

Humphrey's doesn't suck. It's "only" 13992' but if you stack a rock on the summit and reach up your hands over 14000'. Close enough for me. lol

I think you'd have plenty of gearing with dual cases with factory gearing.

If not then its not too much work to pull the doubler and put lower gears in.

I would be good with this if I could just swap for one 4.7 case but I don’t think that’s an option for 1st gens
