A lot of crap and too much money spent

That looks pretty cool. I like how it is completely enclosed to the truck bed. If I didn't have a Tepui I would jump on this.

I was considering it, but I might pass. There are no guarantees that it was made for the 6-foot bed Tacoma. The seller mentions he purchased it used a decade ago. The biggest problem w/ the Flippac (if it's not made specifically for the truck it was going to be put on) is that there will be weather sealing issues between the cap and the bed. The Torsion spring for the Flippac itself wears out, when it breaks the repair is pretty messy since they have to cut it open if they can't get the original spring out. The Stays that keep the lid on over the hood break commonly, some of the repairs on older units I've seen are pretty terrible. The older units had some issues with cracking and pretty bad sealing issues even with new weather sealing. The fabric on the flippac itself (not including the rainfly) wasn't treated on the earlier models w/ the anti-mildew stuff. The fabric is different from the current version from the looks of it (if that's even a photo of the actual flippac).

Another thing to worry about is that it might need a complete replacement of the tent and/or the foam bed.

So anyone considering a road trip, be sure to get photos first.

Anyone know what a "cab access slider" is?

    Stan,

The torsion bar is external and in an aluminum sleeve. If it breaks, and mine did within the first few months, it's not flopping around. You can still deploy the tent with 2 people, or one person with a 4' rolled- up bamboo mat on the way to riverside to get the bar replaced. Ask me how I know ;). The replacement bar has been great with no issues.
The stays are aluminum tubing and can easily be replaced.
As far as fit goes, the base of mine is 5" wide, so it will probably fit decently. The cab angle and cab height clearance are the bigger concerns, but should be the same for the access cab & doublecab.
The foam mattress should probably be replaced anyways.
If the tent isn't in the best condition, you can always throw the rainfly over it.
It's a good deal and Flippacs are a rare breed.
As long as the fiberglass isn't cracked.
I totally understand your concerns and most people wouldn't want to deal with it. For that price I would. Just sold mine for close to $5k.
Pm me if you have any Flippac questions.

    I had to google that...

Didn't mean to come- off that way. Just wanted to inform Stan that there isn't much to the Flippac as far as mechanics. The tent and fiberglass is mainly what you're paying for. All of the other parts are easily obtainable and replaceable with standard garage tools...except for the torsion bar. That's a $300 item and can be replaced in less than an hour with some help.

There are a lot of negative reviews of the Flippac, but no one else offers a cabover camper that weighs the same as a camper shell/ RTT combo. There are a lot of great reviews out there too, and many people use them weekly with no issues. The fact that you can stand up in the truck bed, cook a meal in the rain, hang out, and only take up one parking space is great. Can't deploy the RTT in a crowded ski resort or beach parking lot. Mine was great, but the FWC works out better for family camping in cold weather.
