Mine's for sale because it wasn't getting much use. I tried to get into camping but when the better half isn't a big fan, it severely limits the opportunities. That, and I decided to get rid of the Tacoma because with all the commuting and road trips we were doing (not camping road trips) we were spending hundreds a month since our options are a tacoma and a wrangler.

That sucks about the better half. But what can you do?

I think a good combo between two people is one of them should have something very fuel effiecient. That one gets used for non camping road trips etc. The other commuting and off roading/camping trips.

That gas money adds up real fast for sure. For myself I drove my tacoma about 18,000 miles last year and I only drive it on the weekends. But that includes a 3500 mile road trip to Mexico and back from the bay area and several trips to the Eastern Sierra. My daily driver gets 46mpg. Between the truck and the daily I average 35mpg. My daily was only $4K and it's already paid for itself in fuel savings. It just got a new front tire so it kinda has to pay for it's front tire. It's going to need a new rear tire soon so it's kinda breaking even. What I need to do is use it for more road trips.

Yeah man....the back story is super cool too. A guy who built trophy trucks did all the frame building on it. They built it for a truck magazine he was an editor for. Then he sold it and 10 years later re-bought it.

I have the first gen with 4 cylinder and five speed w/430 gears great fuel mileage. Wife has third gen runner with 4 cylinder and 456 gears with 5speed and gets fair milage. I just bought an 08 with the 6 cylinder and auto trans. We have bases covered. She works next door and I have an 06 Dodge from the company that I work for. Now our vehicles see the streets unless it's to school with the heathens or a weekend trip in the woods.

    Worth it.

For me, it’s because we are increasingly going camping alone so we dont have a spare vehicle with us to go adventure around in. Packing it up doesn’t annoy me but remaking the bed does. I knew this going in, just couldn’t afford a hardtop rtt. Now I can. If it works for you I wouldn’t pay any mind to anyone else’s choices on the matter.
