You gotta pay 25% of sale price for not telling TW about it.

Not enough to have a build thread.
I do really want it, but I'll probably pull a @Fernando. Seriously doubt I'll need it this winter.

I always thought I didn't need a gas skid, but I just noticed a few scratches and dents in my tank. I'm now reconsidering it.

    Just do it!

Dents in a gas tank suck.

Never know how much gas you have until you “run out” with half a tank...

I had to replace my ‘85 tank recently :anonymous:

    I have a skid now!

    half or less.

I've got a couple older mercedes of the '124' family (E class from late 80s/early 90s)... on these, the gas tank is between the trunk and the back seat.... and if the charcoal canister system gets clogged up, this has been known to happen...

its more crash safe there than under the trunk. there's also a very solid steel panel between the back seat and the tank.

on my older volvos, which are another very safety engineered vehicle, the tank was half under the back seat, and forward of the rear axle... I expect that placement is fairly common on a lot of cars.

Don’t ever drive an old FJ40 then... or almost anything older than the mid seventies when it comes to a truck or utility vehicle.

The tacos were the first trucks I've ever owned. Oldest car was a 67 firebird when I was just out of high school. yeah, had to have that muscle car. Never really worried about the tank thing. I remember the exploding Pinto drama though. Craziness.

the pintos tank was directly in front of the back bumper, so in even a minor tail end crash, it would be smushed into the live axle rear differential, spraying fuel everywhere.

putting the tank behind the back seat means you have to go through the entire rear crush zone (aka the trunk) before you can touch it.

    (annoying sound track alert).

Yeah. He’s interested to see as well.

I’m obviously a bit biased, but as an enthusiast, this is literally one of the cleanest and well-maintained trucks I’ve ever been around. He also had a ‘70 impala that he fixed up from the ground up. His family bought it off the lot.

Taking care of things runs in their family. ;)
